Cassano is a quality player, however a keeper may be a good idea - no Taylor or Stack and Almunia injured and Lehmann banned for the first 3 Champions League games. Also how about replacing Vieira? Flamini and Fabregas to replace Vieira and Edu - big ask. Should have bought Scott Parker for my money - nevermind!
A keeper is of the highest importance. Lehmann is ok, needs more work on his crosses definately and still hot headed but an excellent shot stopper. Almunia is awful. Does anyone have an idea about Mannone? Is anyone worried that we might not sign anyone else this summer? The noises from Wenger aren't particularly encouraging. Also anyone have an idea about what squad number will be going to Hleb?
Mannone is only 17 so its very harsh to judge him. He came on against Ritzing & one of their players went on a bit of a run past a couple of our players then had a shot which was just to the left of mannone, he dived to save it but somehow managed to let it squeeze under his body & into the net, it was not even a very powerful shot. As I say you cannot say he is rubbish cos of one mistake but wenger really seems to need some help signing keepers cos this is one place where his judgement really lets him down.
Ok, on the assumption that no-one else goes and we sign maybe Song, what are people's realistic predictions for the season ahead? A lot rests on injuries and suspensions obviously. Unfortunately its difficult to see past Chelsea for the EPL but I reckon 2nd is still ours for the taking. Probably QF in the CL and at least FA Cup final I reckon
My prediction... Arsenal played better without vieira + Play attractive football => Win the EPL 2005-2006 + Champions League => Every world class players wanna come to Arsenal + Baptista wont get another chance to Arsenal

At the moment i think we are looking at 2nd or 3rd place in the League with the squad in its current state. Chelsea have definitely strengthened and with Essien to come they have ridiculous depth in their squad. For me they look too strong and too good for both us and Man Utd. There is no shame in finishing behind them because of the resources they have. With their bottomless pit they should really win every trophy on offer. Man USA have also got stronger and i think Fergie's made a couple of astute signings.
Now to us: Hleb looks a top draw player and he will be a valuable asset all across our midfield, but at the moment i have to say our squad is weaker than last year due to the exits of Vieira and Edu. Our midfield now lacks even more experience and depth. If we get injuries in that department we are in serious trouble. Wenger said today that he might sign a goalkeeper. MIGHT? SHOULD MORE LIKE! I expect a keeper before the season starts. Maybe Carlos Kameni from Espanyol - he has rejected a contract from them so could be available cheapish. If not him then why not Antti Niemi. Now he would be cheap and hes got premiership experience and hes a very fine shotstopper and all round keeper.
Plus, although the Baptista deal now looks doomed, there is still a slight hope that Wenger may offer a package that is too good to turn down. However The Beast's attitude stinks so missing out on him does not seem such a travesty as it once did.
A couple of signings and we could give the russians a real fight, but right now I can only see us fighting for 2nd place. In europe...well we look weaker than ever so i expect very little and we could even fail to get out of the group stage...

No matter what those guys do, I'm certainly not blowing myself up in Allah's name... It's not Gooner'ish to do that. I mean, - it's not really that cool, is it..? It's more what a ManUre or Spurs fan would do. Or should do... Count me out. Gunner, Bømlo, Norway.
Forget Baptiste. Get Owen and we will challenge for the EPL and the CL. Would allow Henry to play slightly deeper in a free role. Henry and Owen would form a 50+ partnership. We have always needed the fox in the box and there is no-one better at that than him. No more dangerous balls across the opposition box with no-one on the end of them.
If Hleb is going to play as a winger I wonder if Freddie could be used in the attacking central midfield role with Gilberto holding. He is an experienced player and would ease a lot of pressure from Cesc. You wouldn't see so many long legged gangly tackles but he is quick and runs all day and would certainly burst into the box more than PV and would score more. Sometimes you have to think of a slightly different way of playing rather than panicking and trying to buy a carbon copy replacement.
Also was impressed with Quincy last year and saw him on the flanks a couple of times taking on and beating players. Perhaps he could also be used as a winger, he has pace to burn.
In short don't worry. Buy Owen and utilise the players we already have maybe in different positions than we normally think, and we will have as good a squad as Chelski.
What about Zejlko Kalatz the Aussie giant keeper? Does anyone know where he is. I used to watch him down here in OZ and he is a fucking animal between the sticks
