Baptista Deal 'Close'

Yet more on the Baptista epic...

We are apparently very close to securing a deal to bring 'The Beast' to Highbury. After all this fuckin' around he better be worth it!!!

Del Nido told the www.marca.es website: "We still have not concluded an agreement between both clubs but what I can say is that Arsenal are getting close to the financial figure we could accept.

"They have already more than doubled the 12 million euros (£8.3m) they started with and it would surpass the fee we got for the sale of (Jose Antonio) Reyes. But obviously the agreement is between three parties."

Yawn.....as usual, watch this space...

We better get him after all this bollox. AW obviously see's him as an ideal partner for Thierry...so im sure he will get his man.
But it is all getting abit boring now...
lets just sign Baptista and Ballack - then crack on.

I think this is ALL bollox, why is the president telling the whole media that the 'deal is close' - aren't trasnfers supposed to be 'secret' or conducted in private until the deal is done that's the normal Arsenal way. I reckon he's trying or hoping Barca hijack the deal. The thing is the pres might think it's 'close' however Baptista will have the final say if he's going to go or not which means this sorry saga will continue to run, i'm suprised AW hasn't fcked him off by now.. i'm so over this story now, i really dont give a toss if does decide to wear the blackcurrant now!

I am pissed off with all this shit about this player!!! Why is it we have all this hassle whenever we go for a transfer in to the club - does he want to come to us or not for fucks sake!!!

I do think he wants to stay in Spain though as he has already stated that on a number of occasions but if he's going to 'decide in a week', THEN say 'no', then wenger will have to give the geezer a slap... the season is looming and AW promised TWO world-class players... (was hleb meant to be one of them???)

I've read that buy Baps & loan him to Barca stories as well - dont see The Arsenal buying a player then loaning him out, what and pay his wages. Doesn't make sense also if he (hypothetically) does get bought/loaned out doesn't really do our Euro hopes any use as he'll be ineligble to play for us.. thats a definiate non starter... also who's to say he'll be as devastating in the Prem?!

THE BEAST WILL COME.

It's rare for us to make such a saga out of signing a player. So what does that tell us? It tells us that we want him badly, and therefore we must need him badly. This is our record transfer fee, after all. This is a big deal for Arsenal. And if it takes a lot of shite to make it happen then so be it. Wheeling and dealing in football transfers aint like what half you punks think it is. So get over yourselves and stop bitching.

HE WILL SIGN.

1:21 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think even tho everyone is over this story we all want him to sign (to a degree) - what would make it easier to believe that we would sign this geezer is if he came out and said he wants to join - not all this BS about 'gissa week to think about it amigo' bit like the The Bank of Chelsea & the Essien saga - he hasn't done Lyon any favours or their fans he's blatantly come out and says he feels like a 'Chelsea' player and wants the move. OK Baps might want to make some change for Seville and make it look good to the fans that he's leaving on good terms, another challenge etc.. same as Reyes last season - he apparently didnt want to leave but the money for both player and club was too great & he wanted to make as much money for the club with his sale - but whats Baps story?

mr wenger is a genious. ive watched baptista a few times and hes a world class srtiker. he plays 4 an average club in spain and he scores 18+ goals a season. some are from the air and some r by his feet. hes quick, strong, powerful and he would be a perfect partner to henry.

1:38 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just seen the spanish sky sports bloke (forgotten his name) speaking about baptista, he reckons the player does not want to join as he is waiting for barcelona, he also said he can get his passport in august & he would get it even if he did join arsenal now. Wenger has pretty much said the same on arsenal online tv saying they can reach an agreement with sevilla but there is problems with baptista & his agent etc.

This is a dead deal, wenger needs to move on fast & find someone else.

No, i haven't ever clinched a £17m deal of any sort. of course, i don't know what is involved.

however, i know that you shouldn't just give up on an idea if it proves slightly more difficult than you first thought, especially if you have conivction in your idea. letting pride rule you head, and walking away from an important deal in a sulk, just becuase people don't throw themselves at your feet to accomodate your wishes after 5 mins, is stupid.

maybe we should try and get Mr Dein to post a comment, see what he thinks? :)

No probs Nyssie, keep it coming. In reply to the chap talking about the Sky Spanish correspondant I can only advise not to listen to him. Whenever there is talk of any Spanish clubs linked to an player from the Prem he goes on about what a great move to the finest league in the world blah blag blah. He is bound to say the player will/should remain in Spain as he always does. I hope he catches something itchy in his fucking ridiculous goatee and scratches his own face of with wire wool.

I am now utterly convinced the Beast will sign in early August. He now has a week in China to deliberate and think through the move. He has always spoken of August as the time his papers would come through. I am not sure if that is next year, but the way he speaks it sounds like this year.

Only a few weeks ago Baptista said he wanted to move to England to us or Man USA. He has later said he wants his EU passport. Does this come in August is the big question.

If were putting huge bids like this on the table he should see how important a player the club see him as in the future and the vital, crucial fact is that he has met the boss and not many reject Wenger becuase he is one of the worlds best.

What a boost this signing i will optimistically say WILL be for the club in a whole and particularly for us fans who have had a dissapointing summer to say the least.

Baptista will join early August for a club record fee in excess of £17 million and it will be fantastic news.

To a certain degree i agree with them.
I always believe in AW but it seems as though letting PV4 go might not have been the best move as there doesn't seem to be any real replacement on the way.
If we get Bap, thats great, but he would clearly be playing up front with TH...I think we need some strength to play along side Gilberto. I cant believe we haven't looked at Ballack yet, that would give us the perfect balance....im still waiting for the 2 'world class' players...

Tommigooner,

I understand your view about this going on so lonbg and that you are surprised wenger 'hasnt fucked him off by now', and i think thats a very important point. We NEVER enter such long, overdrawn negotiations for a player and i am too surprised that we are still trying to sign him afetr all the trouble. The fact we are still trying suggests to me that when Baptista met the boss he probably verbally agreed to the move back then, but wanted to wait til August so he had hism papers. Maybe that is why we have kept trying for so long???

2:24 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

i tell you what i dont want to add to this boooring saga anymore i retract5 my last statement on the grounds that even if DD told me himself and i watched him sign myself i would still not beleive it,but Hleb looks like an excellent buy, is it enough to dislodge chelski?

I totally agree with Simon's views earlier about how great Baptista would be for us. We do desperately need a plan B and the Beast will give us that no doubt. He wont just play up front with Henry though, as mouthwatering a porspect that is, I am also looking forward to seeing him roam and cause destruction from midfield with Gilberto as the defensive linchpin.

With the Beast on board i will actually be optimistic about our European prospects becuase i will know that if we srtuggkle like normal we will actually have something different, something a little bit special, something that will be damn hard to stop in the Beast - OUR PLAN B, OUR 2ND STRATEGY.

Just read on the Arsenal site that AW says the Bap deal yawn - sorry) is in 'no mans land' - as we all know Arsene Knows - but if we dont get Bap is there a plan B? also with the Ballack connections apparently he has another year on his contract but as much as he would suit us do you really reckon that Bayern wouldd sell a prized asset? nah me neither...

2:39 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

This speech from AW doesnt give me confidence....The deal to bring Julio Baptista to Highbury is in “no man’s land”, according to Arsène Wenger.

The Arsenal manager remains “very keen” to acquire the free-scoring Sevilla midfielder but at present a deal is still some way off.

“Unfortunately I have no positive or negative news for you,” said Wenger after yesterday’s 5-2 win over Ritzing. “We are in no-man’s land at the moment.

“I am very keen to get him. He has great strength and can play up front or midfield. He is versatile and can score goals.

“But there are a lot of ingredients in there. The situation is quite positive with the club but we have not sorted it out with the player.”

2:41 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

By 'no man's land' Arsene means he has no more news. He does say that things are 'quite positive' with Sevilla, but we 'have not soryed it out with the player'. So it is pretty much as Del Nido said. We are close to agreeing a fee, and once we have done that we will speak to Baptista.

Wenger for the first time actually speaks about why he wants the Beast, and it all sounds very good to me... “I am very keen to get him. He has great strength and can play up front or midfield. He is versatile and can score goals."

GOD I HOPE HE JOINS

2:43 PM

Is it just me, or does this sound a bit like Arsene sounds when he has signed a player???

I think we should put a 30m+ bid in for Andy Reid at Sp*rs. At least we wouldn't have to worry about any of the lads throwing pizza at Old Trafford. They'd have to be pretty quick to grab any before that fat fucking salad dodger eats them. Just a thought.

Im liking that thought westsidegooner. But i think we should revise that £30 mill bid to something more realistic like 30p. Actually even that would be too much, 3p. Actually fuck that idea, they can pay us 3p...

3:16 PM

Hmmm, im up for Spurs paying 3p to give us Reid, but it would actually save them money becuase theyve had to employ several more dieticians to try to keep him in 'shape'. We would be doing them a favour really. I say its a no go.

On Davids, he added: “Again there is no real truth behind that. There are a lot of players on the market. We have a big squad and we’ll look for maybe just one addition.”

Er.. not sure about you boys maths but early summer AW said TWO world class signings.. i think i need to break my abacus out

3:35 PM

tommigooner there is no need for the abacus mate arsene has obviously not found anyone of the calibre he is looking for and that is why he is only after the beast and the reason we are still after him after him and seville pissing us about is to apease us because we are all shitting ourselves otherwise he would not bother,

3:43 PM

ok Baps deal on/off/on/off who cares is it me or do any of you boys still reckon we're in need of a keeper. Apparently Almunia has broken a finger (granted not sure if anyone would notice given his perfomances) so that leaves just the mentalist German, who will miss the 1st two euro games (granted again the are a few months off). But we talk of cover in case Sol or whatever CB gets injured what about the goal keeping situ. Also this Mark Howards (i think) who's been playing the friendlies who is he? age etc?

and lastly I know i said break the abacus out on signings, but i know & believe we shouldn't sign someone just for the sake off it - i mean look at Franny Jeffers!

ok this is lastly - did any of you see the Masters - good to see Perry Groves - couldnt believe it - the fcker is more bald than Kojak!

I agree, we desperately need a goalkeeper and I am amazed that Arsene hasnt moved to sign a keeper in the agre region of 24-28. Someone who is experienced, while also young enough to be our keeper for amny a year. Keepers are not Arsenes strong point though.

On Baptista, even if we do not get him, we cannot blame the club for their lack of effort. They really seem to be pushing the boat out to get him, and they will if the player agrees the move, which i think he willl. If he doesnt then we cannot accuse AFC of a lack of ambition. I do think Arsene should speak more carefully in future summers. He should not say we will buy two world class stars and end up buying probably none and selling a world class star.

In that respect we have been let down a bit, but if Beast joins all will be forgotten. The club hve put a lot of work into trying to get the player, lets hope all the time is worth it and he joins.

4:51 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

with our youth policy I dont think you can call AFC lacking ambition - just as shame its gonna take 3-5 years for it to bear fruit. Also what with the new stadium sucking any money out of us for transfers etc we just need to suck it up. One thing is for sure once we're in that stadium we will have more kudos and filthy lucre. remember ppl AFC have been punching above their weight against Manures millions for nigh on 8years now, but as with them, just like The Bank of Chelsea we need to reach higher - but the revenue from the new stadium should go a long way to keeping us not far behind them, we just have to make sure we're there or there abouts, not sure if thats defeatest but its the truth.

5:04 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Do any of you guys think Arsene Wenger is gradually getting a little bit carried away by using youth players???

Last season admittedly he was forced into using young stars like Fabregas, Flamini, Van Persie and Senderos among others, and true they showed their class, but this summer's activity, or lack of it, has begun to alarm me a bit.

To be successful, clubs need to have the right balance of experience and youth, and right now i think we are a bit unbalanced in that respect with a a general lack of experienced players or too many youngsters which ever way you look at it.

In particular i look at the two areas of our team that really concern me...

Firstly in goal where we have the two liabilities (Lehmann and Almoronia - who is injured) and after that we would be forced to rely on rookies Mark Howard and Vito Mannone, both who are in their teens and lacking any sort of the experience this club requires. So at the moment we have 2 'experienced' keepers who dont exactly bring confidence to the side, and 2 rookies. All this afetr Wenger sold the perfectly capabale duo of Taylor and Stack.

Secondly in central midfield we have sold our Captain, our world class experienced midfield performer Patrick Vieira and Arsene instead of replacing him has said he will rely on youth to fill the void. Ok, so if Baptista signs he could do a job in there, true, BUT, if he doesnt we have Gilberto, Cesc, Flamini and Hleb. Once again 2 youngsters, plus Hleb who is inexperienced in this League.

Last year turned out to be a transitional period, and the way things are currently, this year is shaping up to be nothing but the same.

Has Arsene overdone the preparing for the future and forgotten about the now? It is my opinion that he has and it does disappoint me. Baptista would make a big difference, but still, the Club we all love seems to be 'throwing in the towel' a tad on this seaosn and preparing for the next decade.

Any views?

message to Gilio...

you've said exactly what I said earlier re: goal keepers - I know as a rule keepers aint AW's strong point however I am surprised no make that shocked that he hasn't tried to sign an experienced keeper so far. Granted Given/Cudicini would cost a bit of wedge but they also would give you confidence. Given cant for real think The Toon army will be anything but top six at best & Cudicini is doing a 'Winston Borgade' in just taking the money without playing - those two keepers with prem expericence would be ideal. Lehmann does need someone to push him & i dont mean physically & i must admit i dont see Almunia being that person. AW normally gets a polish diamond from coal however in Almunia's case its fill the blank **** from coal.

5:18 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree. Wenger has forgotten the present and it does show a bit of a lack of ambition. The Russians on the other hand are buying for the present and for the future. Yes they have an unlimited budget, but we said we had £30 mill to spend and as yet our dealings have increased that to £34 mill. Im not saying go out and buy for the sake of it, but there are players out there that we need and should buy, noteably a keeper, theres no lack of them, and a midfielder which might be Baptista.

Its a shame

Also wenger only said there was no interest in davids & dacourt at the moment which means there could be if we get desperate.

I reckon the main problem regarding Baptista is probably the agent as Baptista said he wanted to move to England and to Arsenal a couple weeks ago. Wht the hell has changed.

Just read an article on arseonline.com which i guess quotes from the video in which Arsene speaks about Baptista.

Crucially arsenal.com does not include all of what Wenger says and importantly Arsene said, "In Spain if players from a Latin American country stay for two years then they get a Spanish passport. He qualifies in August. It could delay things a
bit".

I hope whoever wrote this quoted it correctly, becuase if he did that is excellent news for us. Looks as though we may have to wait another week or so and put up with some more idle speculation, but expect Sevilla to announce that a deal has been reached as regards to a club record transfer fee soon and in a few days after that expect (hopefully) Julio Baptista to be wearing an Arsenal shirt at a press conference.

10:39 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think that Gilio has the right idea, Baptista can't say he's planning to leave whilst applying for his Spanish passport. He joined Seville 22/7/2003 so if the two year theory is correct he should be getting that passport any time soon ... fingers crossed. All this procrastiation could just be about getting the passport (Might also mean that AW did tap up Bap in Brazil and has just been biding his time!)

10:51 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I dont think theres much doubt that Arsene tapped him up. Which was clumsy to say the least after the Cole farce. Maybe AW and The Beast had much of this planned, perhaps to engineer a cheaper deal with Sevilla, but it doesnt seem to be working does it as we have already bid 24 mill euros. This is one of the oddest transfer sagas ever in my opinion, and its odd for us to be involved. Usually we are unfussy and get things done quietly, not on this complicated deal. Shows just how much Arsene wants the player and to hear him speak so highly of him before hes signed was unlike him too.

I think the deal will happen.

11:01 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

apparently Baptista can file for his Passport at the start of August, but it could take 6 to 8 months for it to go through. Hence he is saying he wants to stay for another season.

So it seems as if Arsene may just have his facts a little bit wrong this time, BUT WHO KNOWS. Im not sure anyone knows whats going on with this deal.

Sevilla may well try to force The Beast out after it seems the clubs have reached an agreement on a club record fee, but it depends on how strong Baptista will be. Can he afford to be the 4th non EU player at Sevilla for a whole year playing no football??? No is the answer. Bloody hell expect an end to this saga in a week or so and thank you lord.

Bad news on www.marca.com. Baptista has now been linked in a double swoop by Real Madrid that also includes Sergio Ramos. Although there are no quotes in this article, so yes it could be bollocks, it is said that a meeting did take place in tokyo which is feasable as both sides are in asia currently.

Also on Marca, even more alarmingly for us, Baptista says that he 'would never turn Real Madrid down'. Even more alarmingly he also speaks about why he would reject a move to Arsenal, saying, 'There are many factors that weigh against it (a move to Arsenal). I would have outisde od Spain and adapt to another league the year in which the World Cup is played'.

Having previously been optimistic of our chances of signing him this has really dampened my spirits in all honesty. It looks as though that unless Arsene can weave his magic and convince Baptista that a move to Arsenal would be beneficial to his career (which it would be damnit), he will either be on his way to real, or staying in Seville. I guess we will see what happens, but not good news at all. Gutting.
