Hleb: 'For Me It Was Only Ever Arsenal'

New boy Alexander Hleb has stated he never had any doubts about become a Gunner, despite Chelski trying to screw us and sign him before he signed for us.

"When I heard about Chelsea's interest I didn't give it a thought," he stated.
"For me, it was only ever Arsenal.

"Many people seem to think nobody will be able to compete with Chelsea but I beg to differ.

"I've come to Arsenal to win as many honours as possible. I want to win every trophy going, home and abroad.

"Maybe Chelsea have more money and a bigger squad, but that's not the most important thing.

"The goal Arsenal set is very simple - to win everything there is to win."

GOOD MAN!!!

I'm glad that some players share my view on the coming season. With everybody talking about who Chelsea are signing, people seem to forget that every team starts the season with 0 points (In Sp*rs case thet often finish the season without many more). This season will have many twist and turns I'm sure, and I hope other teams continue to write us off. We'll be champions come May as were we before the last 2 world cup tornaments.

Nyssie,

Thats not a blog, thats a statment of Intent, I hope that the Manu, Chelski & Sp*rs fan's took note....

I know not all would be happy with this, but not going for Guti, makes me sad. AW does not like player prostituting themselves, anyway Too old too expensive, could cause dis-harmony in the dressing room.

Why not post about DD's black Opps to Sevilla eh?

Good to hear a player saying these things, especially a new signing. I don't actually think Chelsea were interested in Hleb, but they got their name involved in the speculation simply to drive up Stuttgart's value of the player and make us pay more.

Wouldn't put it past them, they are cuntbags. Surprised theyve not come in with a late bid for Baptista...

I agree with gilio, Why have'nt Chelski bid for Baptista? I don't know, but I wager that in a year from now they will try to tap him up, like they did with our Ash....

Whether you can trust The Sun or not is the question. But in this case I am going to be optimistic and say that we do finally be appearing to get our man.

I always said that this wasn't over, even though he said he wants to stay. If Sevilla accept our bid they will definitely force him to leave and as he has already spoken to the boss then i am sure he will make his move.

Could be, COULD be a great day for Gooners.

Except for the Carling Cup that is... And rightly so, its useful to give youth players a chance, but other than that its a waste of time. Chelsea still count it as a trophy, but in my eyes, they did not do the double last year as the Carling Cup carries no significance

Gilio,

A trophy is a trophy, no matter the significance, Ask Manu... Roy Keane eat up his own words about the FA cup... Lets not do the Same. Just look when the team gets back from Pre-season the trophy's will be photographed with the 1st team.

Chelski - Won two last term lets not discredit it. and if our younglings win it this time out I would see that as a major achievement...

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Am I the only one who's a bit confused about where exactly the Beast will play IF he does sign for us? Will it be midfield or will he play a striker role or what??

10:57 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, for your youngsters it would be a mighty achievement, but for Chelski and their money it's not the same. I guess you are right though, if we did win the Cunting Cup, i would count it, especially as we would have won it with youth.

Exacta mundo!!!!

Remember we are ranked in the top 8 of Europe, the includes

Manu
Real
AC
Arsenal

Above how many of them could have done what we do on our budget eh?

11:02 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anonymous, In my view The Beast will play in the Vieira role firstly as he is also a midfielder. He would not be a defensive midfielder though, he would be given license to get forward and join attacks as Gilberto would be the defensive linchpin.

Also, in Europe when we are looking one dimensional, as we normally do, i would expect Arsene to push Baptista up front with Henry to give us some aerial presence and allow us to mix it up a bit. Either Cesc or Hleb could fill in alongside Gilberto.

The Beast would give us an edge we have lacked. Last year showed how vital goals from set pieces are and Chelsea could play poorly but still knick a goal from a corner. We desperately need to add this to our game and Baptista could almost single handedly do that. He scores all types of goals.

It could be the most important signing of the summer for any team, including Chelseas likely signing of Essien for ludicrous amounts of Russian money.

Anon,

My Bet is as lead Striker, Henry playing off him, because hes Brazilian the long ball will not be the desiered route, as with Trez... (Thats why France and Henry are not doing so well in the World cup qualifiers) Playing on the ground is the preffered mode of attack, Batista is like ronaldo (Back to the Goal.. Quick turn/Face thesn scare the Lights out of defenders, AW wants him to pull the Defense to the center and allow Pires, Henry, Helb, Lunberrg, and I think very likely Bentley more space to deliver the killing blow, in a move I call the Fatal Attack: 4000 MP/2HP)

not contradicitng Gilio just showing another option .

11:10 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jude,

That's what's so good about Baptista, we can vary our mode of attack so much more. I have no doubt if we do sign him, he will play both in midfield and up front. That versatility will be so invaluable. His imposing physical approach will also give defenders a fear factor. And if we are going into the last 10 minutes of a match needing a goal, aka Bayern in CL, we could actually employ a direct apporach, like we did, and gain some success from it this time.

Dont get carried away with paper talk. Hleb said he read of chelsea's interest in the papers. I think if their interest was real his agent may just have been informed. There are enough things to dislike Chelsea for but believing every paper rumour and passing it on as gospel just makes us look naieve.

11:19 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

It would be a great signing if we do get him. All we need then is to sign a keeper and we are set because without a new keeper, I honestly think we will struggle to try and regain the Premiership title.

11:22 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes i agree, a new keeper has got to be on Wenger's agenda, surely? He's always made clangers with keepers, not only the ones hes bought who have been poor (shaaban, almoronia), but the one's hes allowed to get away (Robinson, Frey, Proto). This does worry me and although you can normally trust Wenger, with keepers you cant...

Yeah it was awesome! They were all well worked goals. Glad to see bentley get on teh score sheet as well. I would like to see him play some part in the upcoming season!

11:29 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm thinking Bneltye will play some part as Freddie's cover on the right. I know Hleb can play there too, but his preferred role is in central midfield. Bentley looked decent at Norwich and has a years Premiership experience now. If only he was a bit bigger, he would be one hell of a player.

How do you think Henry feels about the transfer situation this summer? I know hes always said how settled he is but surely he can't be happy that PV4 has gone and maybe Pires to follow? Henry needs to be kept happy at all costs because his leaving the team would be devastating

11:35 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know what your saying about it being devastating if Henry left but at the same time I don't think we should be bending over backwards to keep him happy. He has said many time before how happy he is at Arsenal and now that he is captain he should be setting an example so I hope that means we don't see as much of his sulking this season as we did last season - particularly in the Chmapions League!

The Sun have clearly got the bid wrong. It would take 15 mill to get him for sure. If we did get him for a little under 13 mill that would be great news, but it will defo take 15 mill plus.

You can understand his frustrations though as we as Arsenal fans suffer the same frustrations in the Champs League every season too. I'm not saying its right fro him to sulk, but when are we going to reach the semi-final even? Its just not right that a team with an excellent domestic record, which plays by far the best football in the country, cannot adapt to the Euro stage.

11:47 AM

and no one said he was leaving, just what he thought about the transfer situation as it stands - ie on paper Arsenal not as strong as they could be

It's nice to see a player actually saying something positive. Makes a refreshing change from the doom and gloom. Friend of mine who is more well versed in footie than me is giving up his season ticket, getting out of the whole Arsenal thing, despite being a fan for years. Says sick of the money being all important, says the new stadium will be a white elephant etc. and that the whole Vieira thing convinced him to finish it. I'm trying to be optimistic in the face of the apparent issues we are having right now. Does anyone know why Arsenal seem to always leave it so late to get players to renew their contracts? That does worry me a bit.

I think Arséne has done more than enough to at least warrant some trust in him, so I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Baptista sounds like a serious player of the kind that we need. A physical presence up front can make such a difference - Just look at the way Rooney shrugs people off when he is on the ball. You only nee dot look at The Beast to see that he has excellent upper body strength.

BTW - Not sure who it was that said Arse Blogger was a bit egotistical but have to say I love his Blog. This is a great place too - Keep it up.

Alright now i know it could have been worded differently but I was just trying to emphasise the importance of keeping Henry. No-one else here seems to be happy about the situation at present with the club and also the Beast hasn't signed yet. It was a hypothetical question regarding Henry's opinion on everything. I didn't say he was leaving just how devatated I would feel by that
