Gala Still Gunning for Bob

Galatasary claim they're still in with a chance of signing Bobby...

President Ozhan Canaydin said: "I can't say the transfer is a done deal but I can say there's a 50 percent chance. We've made good progress. Things are not as they're said in the newspapers.
"Pires has three offers on the table and we're the last one. Pires has a year on his contract with Arsenal. His aim is to leave on a free transfer and he's told us that he's solved this problem. We'll have some kind of result this week."

Why on earth would Bobby want to go and play in Turkey? I admit he's getting on a bit now, but he could have his pick of clubs in Italy or Spain. It doesn't make much sense to me....what do you reckon?

Theres as much chance of Pires going to Gala as there is Baptista going to Spurs. That said, I think Wenger needs to sign Pires up for that 2 year deal the player wants. Either that or he sells him NOW so he can buy a replacement before the season starts. EVERYTHING IS UNCERTAIN AT THE MOMENT AND I DONT LIKE IT

Sell him.... We can't afford his high wages, lets get on with this as I do believe that only Freddie, Gilberto and TH will be the only +25yrs old players next season.

Sell sol now, he's not good, too heavy for the league... sell him to Juventus or better still Newcastle..

what you talking about? Sol is a machine, he is one of the best defenders in the league, you watch, he will come back strong.

We are already ginding it hard to find an adequate replacement for Vieira, so selling either Pires and Sol this summer too would be a terrible move. One big name leaving is more than enough already. Yes pires is replaceable, but top notch, experienced centre halves at the money we like to spend are going to be hard to come by as we move nearer to august.

There is no way I'd let Bob go. The man was second in goals behind Henry. Who is going to fill that void?

I also wouldn't sign him for 2 years. I think Arsenal's policy is good. Review (probably after season starts) after a couple of months and see if his stats dip.....

All,

Who is better right now?

Man_Sol or Senderos, Face it We have the weapons at Arsenal to replace either P7 or Sol, but as in direct reply to Anon... your vision of the game is as shortsighted as your language...

Point 1: AW has told us that Sol is #1 this commimg season, Sol's body is not, and I don't think for a minute that Sol want's to bench World Cup year (as it's definately his last.) Senderos and Toure are the #1 Central defensive combo. They are flexible and AW does not have to change the defensive positons as with Sol in. I beg to differ on the point that Sol is the best CH in england today, I'd rather give that to Terry, or Carragher.... AW sold PV4 because he wants performance not reputations, the Team must now be built upon that not reps, Yes Sol was a rock for the unbeaten season, but thats not now and we have a really great player in senderos (3rd in PoTY Awards).... P7 is really good but I think that with Reyes settling in we will see a breakout year, P7 does not do alot but score, Defensively weak he exposes the left flank, We could play him in the middle but Fabregas is my man there. on the right we have Hleb and FL8 so please tell me why we should keep them? In January we will go in for the beast... we need about $30mil for that alone. Sol right now is work 10Mill Pounds, Pires 5Mill we have spent 10Mill out of 20 Mill on Hleb, Sold PV for 13... that makes 23 Mill currently, Believe me we need to change and AW knows that too, Selling the 3 would be good business, As I stated before only Gil, Henry, Fred and Alumnia are going to be retained over the next 18 Months, apart from the new buys Hleb, and the Resigned Reyes 2011, Clichy 2010 Man we going to have youngsters. Ps: TH and FL are renegociating contract extentions, so good luck this that...

Tip - Bentley has not made the grade
50/50 on Ali, - If he has a successful season at Celtic...
Quincy - Make or break season.

What we really need is a Striker (Baptista)

What we don't need are mid fielders

Currently on books:

Helb (RAM/CM/SS)
Flamini (LDM/RAM)
Gilberto (RDM)
Fabregas (Anywhre! Midfield General)

could play:

Toure (RDM)
Pires (LcM)
Lundberg (RM)

Strikers:

Henry (SS/cf)
Van Persie (SS/cf)
Lupoli (CF)
Berkamp (SS)
Bentley (SS/RAW)

Could play:

Pires (ss/LaW)
Ryan Smith (LAW)
Lundberg (LAW/Raw)

Defense:

Cole (Lm/Lb)
Clichy (Lb/Lm)
Senderos (Rch/Lch)
Campbell (Lch)
Troure (rb/rch)
Lauren (rb)
Hoyte (rb)
Ebuoe (rb)

Could play:

Gilberto (Rch)
Cygan (Anywhere)

Key:

"L": Leter represents position of play Left;Rght or Center. uppercase or lowercase represents strengths or weaknesses of the player playing in that position.

"on the books": represents the position I think Arsenal paid them to play.

"could play": represents a position that AW could play them with varing degrees of sucess or where I have seen them play for e.g. Gilberto is terrible at (ram) Rigth Attack - Midfield, So I do not put him there because it's not a place you would put him as seen in the unbeaten year....

Crikey, that's a long post. Procrastinating from your studies, jude? ;) Despite this list, I think you forget that if we sold P7, we really only have Freddie, Hleb, Reyes, and Bentley (who you've written off) on the wings. Lack of depth here was a problem 03/04, leading to the relative nightmare of Gilberto as RM. I think Quincy could play LW, but have concerns he'd get in Henry's way. Clichy was great in a sub role at that position, but I'm not too keen on either he or Cole starting there. Who would we bring in to replace Bob who's any better? This would not be addition by subtraction.

I also disagree on your assessments. How can you write off Bentley so soon, when he's played a total of one Premiership match with us? I doubt this is a make/break season for Quincy. Possible break-out season yes.
