Baptista Blows Out Move to London

Julio Baptista has ruled out a move to the capital;

"I have never said that I wanted to leave or that I didn't want to stay at Sevilla," said Baptista during a press conference.

"I have come here to work and to play here a further season. I don't know what is going to happen this year, but I am calm.

"There is interest from several clubs but I am happy here and I have to take that into account.

"In August, I will get my papers in order to get Spanish nationality and I will no longer take up a non-European place, which is very important for me."

He did admit to speaking with Le Boss though;

"It was a fast conversation, in order to get to know each other and that is it," he said.

"But I told him that I had the opportunity to get my passport, which is very important for me."

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?!?!?!?

Whats going on is we have blown it. Only weeks ago he wanted to come to England, we had a very cheeky bid rejected and if we had just given them what they wanted it would have all been resolved. This is a MAJOR MAJOR BLOW to us and im deeply concerned about the season ahead.

It will be interesting to see whether he is included in Sevillas european plans, as a move in January would seem very likely. I am surprised Sevilla havent demanded he leave, as they will have to sell him a lot cheaper in a years time. Its a bit of a tangled mess and it may not be the end of the story.

None the less though, if Arsenal had acted quicker he would have signed weeks ago, but no, unlike everyone else, we have to faff around, do things very slowly, very old fashioned and now weve missed out on a player who would have filled the void left by our departed skipper. Well done Arsenal, youve really f*cked this one up a treat.

The new season fills me with worry as we are not good enough in midfield, nowhere near good enough... :(

I am gutted, really gutted. Theres not many available 'ish' players out there who can fill Vierias position, but the Beast is one of them. Plus he could have been immense in Europe as a battering ram of a support striker.

I really think weve missed out majorly, and im very concerned at what plans Arsene may have in mind, becuase at the moment we are looking well short of what Chelsea have, and even Man USA.

Last week though we did bid after Baptista said he wanted to stay and get his EU passport, hes now said it again, what odds that we come in with the right ammount of money now, only to be rejected by the player himself. WHAT A JOKE.

I agree with Mabalza Richi, this may not be the end of it, as I;m sure Sevilla would want rid of him if they get the right offer as he clearly will not sign another contract with them.

Its a stupid saga now, could have been over weeks ago if we had given them the money. Missed out on SWP, now The Beast, what more could go wrong.... Henry breaks his leg???

I shouldn't be TOO worried about this. Players change their minds all the time and I can't imagine Beasty turning down £50.000/week just so he can get his passport a few years earlier, especially as his wages are very low (for a player of his class at least) right now and he's more or less ruled out a new contract with Sevilla. Sure this isn't good news, but I don't think we've blown it just yet.

Sure there is still the off chance, but apparently he said this at a full blown press conference at Sevillas training camp. Surely he would have spoken with Sevilla before making these claims, so perhaps they have accepted he will stay another year and will lose him for less money. Everythings very messed up. I would like to see us put the right bid in now and test both Sevilla and Baptistas resolve. Theres little doubt they will accept the bid, but will he? If he doesnt, would he be left out in the cold by Sevilla.

PLEASE JULIO, COME TO US, WE NEED YOU

well the beast said he spoke with le boss, people do you trust arsene?i trust him because we can still get julio in january when by then he will have gotten his passport i believe there has been an arrangement between the player and the arsenal camp which will bring him to highbury in january and by that time he will come in and freshen up the squad so people put your faith in arsene because HE KOWS.

I agree with tulanming. For all Arsenes brilliant transfer coups, there has been many an error. Why in the blue hell did we let spurs sign Robinson for 2 mill??? Ibrahimovic would have been amazing for us and Cech, well theres nothing to say about him, hes superb. Now add Baptista to this and theres 4 stunning players who could have made us European Champions, let alone Premiership Champs.

Our midfield is looking shocking right now. Sure Cesc, Gilberto and Flamini are fine players, but wheres the physical edge...? Cesc needs a helping hand physically, Baptista would have been perfect.

This is a total disaster for Arsenal and we have no one to blame but ourselves for being so poor in the market this year, whereas Chelsea, yes theyve spent a lot of money, have been quick to sign SWP and Del Horno, two players they really wanted and needed. WE DO HAVE THE MONEY, BUT HAVE BEEN F*CKING PRATS.

January would be too late, we would already have played, and most likely lost to Chelsea twice by then!!!

Not to mention we could already be out of Europe by January. We are not good in europe and out squad is currently looking as weak as it has done in years. Whats to say we wont be out of europe by the time the beat might join in January, WE NEED HIM NOW! even if he does come in January he may be cup tied through playing for sevilla in europe.

this was supposed to be a summer in which we strengthened after last season blatantly showed we lacked depth. So what have we done, weve lost edu and vieira and are yet to replace them with anyone. Whats more, Arsene may even think we are strong enough without new players (insane), which is probably why weve been so stingy over signing the beast and now weve missed out. Well Done arsenal, we tried to trust you after vieira, but you are letting us down big time right now.

The only stumbling block I see is the passport thing... well if he doesn't think he'd stick it out at Arsenal long enough to get his passport then he'd probably not be worth signing anyway.

If we up our bid to a fee Sevilla accept then he'll still come to us. But we ought to be quick, so as to stop Barca or Real coming in. He might get a Euro passport later by moving, but I'm sure he won't mind if we give him a good deal, and we also sign a keeper and a midfielder, and do really well, and if he impresses the Brazil coach in a dream forward line boasting Henry, Baptista, Reyes, Van Persie, Bergkamp and Quincy.

The bottom line is WE HAVE GOT TO REPLACE PV4. Our midfield is not strong enough to compete right now. The beast would have been perfect, but we have blown it. This is yet another bad day for Arsenal FC following the Vieira sale. Initially i thought it was good, but weve done bugger all to replace him as yet and time is running out. Please arsene prove me wrong, but things look bleak for our last season at the legendary Highbury

What is this? Kindergarten time? Will you all please stop whinging on about the end of the world as we know it and use your noggins. Baptista will come to Arsenal - it is already agreed. The spurs story is a week old. The passpost story is two weeks old. Both are red herrings. Arsenal are hard negotiators and wouldn't be stringing this one out so long if they didn't already know that they have their man. All that remains to be sorted is the price, and Baptista's comments are designed to put pressure on Arsenal and Seville to reach a speedy conclusion. End of.

listen guys, what did Arsene say after he sold Patrick? trust us.....

so quit the bitching and Trust him!

Arsene is a great manager, he will pull somthing off.

im hoping Ballack, much rather have him than the beast. Ballack is a midfield general, he is a fighter, a true modern great. We would be strong with him than with Patrick of the Beast.

People relax, the truth is we couldn't have signed him until after he got his spanish papers anyway, the transfer window doesn't shut till the end of the month, have a little faith why be so melodramatic?

4:27 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ballacks not much younger than PV4, so would be a bit of an odd signing after selling Vieira would it not. Beast is the best option. I hope anonymous who posted at 4:21pm is right!

I tell u who would be a good replacement as well, baraja from valencia......But the perfect replacement i agree would be ballack.

4:31 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Barajas older than PV4, What would be the point in signing him. Ballack is 29 in September too. Wenger wants a 24/5 year old surely!? So the beast or Diarra fit the bill.

Ballack is the answer, i hope the Beast thing is a smoke screen which will lead to us getting Ballack, he is the best replacement we could ask for.

The Beast & Ballack, would be a perfect summer.

Not being funny but this could- and probably is all just talk so that we offer him an improved contract. Just like his chairman mentioning Sp*rs to drive up his price. I wouldn't worry i'm sure he'll sign by the end of the window. Just watch....

Don`t worry. The gutter press knows nothing. They invent stories to create controversy and spin the story to get most publicity and create confusion.90% of all written stories concerning football transfers is pure fiction or something very close to fiction.....this is just another case of sylvain wiltord all over again. The Beast will sign !!!!

I agree with Steven. Whilst its hard, forget the papers. All they are trying to do is sell copies and what sells more than fiction. AW is a genius, he has never let us down before and he won't let us dwon now. Have faith

4:57 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes it is important to have faith i guess. It is just dissapointing news today, as for a couple of weeks, I and many other gooners were expecting Baptista to be an Arsenal player by now, and the deal is beginning to look less likely. I think what we should remember is that although it seems a lot longer, Vieira left last Firday, thats 5 days ago. We need to give arsene another week or so to make the signings WE DO NEED. Ideally a few days before the amsterdam tournament, wenger will have signed the beast, a keeper and maybe a couple of youngsters ( Song is on trial ) and perhaps Christanval as defensive cover. We do need the signings sooner rather than later so the players will be able to gel into the team, but we must have faith and give the board and Arsene time.

I do agree though, the Baptista deal should have been wrapped up weeks ago if we had been a bit more concise, but we are doing it the hard, long way and i hope its pulled off later this week/early next week.

I think we should all trust him, they no what they are doing!!!!!!
And who were vieira and petit, we never heard of them at all, and as for t henry he was a failed winger for juve, need i say more about TT anymore!!! so trust the gaffa and it will be sweet....

I think theres one thing for certain, nearly all arsenal fans see the benefits the Beast would bring to the club, so i really hope the gunners can pull this one off. Wengers shown he wants him, but will he be as ruthless in his pursuit of the Beast as he was with Reyes? He normally gets who he really wants, so hopefulyl in a week or so itll be a done deal.

5:32 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Edu won't be missed so stop whining about him - having seen be played off the park by gary flitcroft a few years ago I don't think he would helped much no we have lost vieira.
As for baptista, i'm not surprised - as soon as I heard the passport thing you could tell he was staying - after all getting a european passport means not having to go back to brazil when we retires and more importantly means he can sign for barcelona or real madrid as an EU player.
As to whether we'll sign anyone at all who knows? If we keep Christanval we could push Kolo into midfield.

5:37 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kolo is no Vieira replacement. I dont see why Baptistas worried about his EU passport, i am sure he would be given a long enough contract over here to get his passport here. Is he just trying to get himself a bigger contract by making Arsenal think hes going to stay. If Wenger has met the player, then he must really want to acquire his services. Perhaps Baptista knows this and is just attempting to get himself as good a deal as possible. Well i hope anyway, but its probbably more realistic to think he isnt going to come. I will dream on though...

Don't worry, it will get done. The whole deal was done when PV went to Juve. Maresca went to Seville and now the Beast comes here. The rest is posturing.

I just really hope that all this Baptista talk is a ploy to get himself a better deal with us. I had sort of been enjoying the thought that he was going to be an Arsenal player, but it is looking less and less likely every with every passing minute.

If we dont get him, then we desperately need a physical midfielder with european experience. The only candidate for me is Diarra of Lyon. Not only is Jenas not physically imposing, but he is not good enough in my opinion. As far as Ballack is concerned, why sell a 29 year old and buy a player who will soon turn 29? Whats the point? We may as well have kept PV4.

Again if we don't get Baptista, i think we need a physical frontman to give us that plan B we lack at times, especially in Europe. We have been linked with Adebayor of Monaco. He looks a lanky streak of piss to me, a less skillful Kanu who can head a bit.

In conclusion, i think Arsenes got to pull out all the stops to get The Beast at Highbury as he could fill both voids in midfield and up front.

Imagine these two line ups: Premiership: Lehmann, Lauren, Senderos, Sol, Cole - Freddie/Hleb, Baptista, Gilberto, Pires/Reyes - Bergy, Henry.... Or in Europe, especially the trips Bergy cant make: Lehmann, Lauren, Senderos, Sol, Cole - Freddie/Hleb, Cesc, Gilberto, Pires/Reyes - Baptista, Henry.

It all looks a mouthwatering prospect. I really hope it happens.

I agree with this DiSmithio character. Baptista would kill two birds with one stone and what a player he would be in midfield or in attack. If its not him then i do worry, but i will keep my faith in Arsene.

If it's simply a matter of his passport and not preferring Barca, which I fear, we'd be in a better position in January. We wouldn't have to worry about work permit issues, and he'd be cheaper. I agree with Steven, take a deep breath. Disapointing sure, but le boss has made several late signings in recent seasons that have worked out pretty well for us. But I don't agree with splashing 20m or Sol plus 6 for Jenas. That's just nutty.

You guys should read between the lines before jumping the gun. Julio said that he'll be getting his papers in August, which is only 10 days away and the transfer window closes only at the end of August. The deal will be clinched immediately after he gets his papers.

Finally,
Somebody with more sense than dollars. He will sign and it will be after he organises his passport situation. If he doesn't then he can go get get fucked just like Alex and Moronho with his traitor adopted son SWP.

I know that people think their is still chance of Baptista to go to Arsenal saying that Arsene has told him to say this to say this to make Seville sell and that Baptista just wants a the best contract possible. But, it is reported and likely that Baptista has privately agreed to go next summer to Barcelona or Real Madrid who do not want him immediately. Clubs in La Liga can only have three non EU players in their squad. So this is why he is so desperate to stay at Seville and get his citizinship.

8:54 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Does he not get his EU papers NEXT august? Why in the blue hell would he want to stay a whole year at Sevilla, where he wont sign a new contract, when he could leave on August 1st for England?
I still say if Sevilla get the right offer he will leave, because they will force him out in order to get more money. Only a matter of weeks ago he said he WANTED to come to England, why the huge U-turn now?
Although this has become a frustrating saga, there are so many permutations to consider and that also makes it fascinating. I do not think this is the end of the story, lets not forget that Arsene has met him, so we must have been fairly close to signing him. It can happen again, and what an asset he would be if he signed. I will keep dreaming i guess.

theres a difference between turning a move down in theory and turning down an acctual move, he would leave to play cl football in wc year, if it werent wc year he may stay, but he is close to the squad so cl football could push him into brazils 4 strikers

wenger 'tapped' him up but wengers justification is you need to find out if a player wants to join you at some point before making a raised bid, which after they talked we increased the bid, therefore he must have told aw he would join.

funny thing is when sevilla say another prem club (sp*rs) are in for him he comes out and says he will stay in spain for another year, perhaps they should tell sp*rs to do one
