Guti & The Beast

Just a quickie....I don't know if there is any truth to this whatsoever, but on my short drive home from work just now I heard on TalkSport that DD has flown out to Spain to secure the signings of both Julio Baptista and Guti.

Is this more crap, or is something about to happen?

Its probably just more rumours unfortunately. I think all Gooners would be relieved if DD sorted it out. With Vieira gone and maybe Pires to follow at least two players to replace them are required. Its gonna be a very different Arsenal next season, new faces and new ideas. Its a shame that Van Bommel was already sold to Barca. I feel he would have made an excellent replacement for PV4. Also Van Der Vaart. How is it that SWP is worth £21m and VDV was sold to Berlin for £6m?! English player prices are ridiculous and its a shame Wenger didn't land VDV.

Despite many opinions on the contrary on this site earlier, I would welcome the signature of Guti. Not as a replacement for PV4 because he's not that type but I think he could bring a lot to the midfield. Not at the expense of Cesc or Flamini because there will be so many games, he would add depth.

I've only seen Guti a few times on Sky, and in one game (whne Beckham was out injured) he played well and was stroking the ball about, but in most of the others when Beckham was playing he seemed to shrink and be overawed, will he be a big enough presence to fill PV4's size 12's?

Guti couldn't get into the Madrid side because he is not regarded as a 'galactico'. That doesn't mean he's a bad player, just that he didn't fit into the flawed galactico project

listen, I know it sounds impossible, but Le Boss could even turn RVN (he with the long face) into a world class player... so dont worry, it does'nt matter who we buy, AW will make them super world class... (mind you, he'd have his work cut out to turn any of that crap down the road into a sunday league player... lmao.)

Does anyone know what's going on with RvP? Is he still in deep shit? I heard he'd been given a few weeks off from training. That can't be a good sign at this time of the year.

there`s more chance of our signing Julio Iglesias than Julio Baptista.

Gutti and Gilberto will provide the perfect combination in front of the Arsenal defence and behind Prince Henry and RVP with Reyes and Hleb at the wings. A fighter like the beast will match with Flamini in the mid-field; Wenger is no fool! Let him get the two and Arsenal have a well- rounded team.
Hey, how is the friendly going.....?

hey , it is Arsenal 4 Weiz(or whatever)0 at half-time. Prince Henry naviated 2 with flamini and Bently netting oe each.

Friendly: 4-0 half time. Flamini close range shot from a corner. Henry incredible left foot shot from outside the area. Bentley into an open net after a piss-take Pires backheel. Henry (offside?) tap in from on the goal-line after more good work from Pires. Hleb looks pretty good, lots of 1 touch passing. Song's doing ok centre mid also.

No truth in Gutu and the beast joining us.The board are tight fisted and expect flamini to replace PV4

RVp has been given 2 weeks off, we wont sign baptista, its become too public n arsenal dont like dealing in teh media unlike chelski, such a scum club all their dealings in public, no class there. as for guti i think he would be a good squad player but not to replace pady, i dont think our board will be tight fisted in splashin out on a replacement, wenger already said he gets all the vieira money to spend. lets be patient as we expect him to spend it wisely n not rush him.as always. is the friendly game on tv?

I would love for this to be true. I would not accept Guti on his own, but if Mr Dein came back from spain with Guti and Baptista that would be superb news for the club. Beasty is the priority though no doubt. I hope this is true.

beast is defo prioroty, im not sure he wants to leave tho, but i think if he waits a yr to gain his dual nationality, his contract runs out, so we wont have to worry about agreeing a fee for him just pay compensation cos he is under the age limit i think. surely he wnats to team up with jose again! as for guti we shall see, ne one know about hargreaves? im not a big fan, i think ballack is available for about 12mil, he is a better player than vieira n the same age, what do we think?

Don't you get it? Beast said during last interview that he gets his passport in August, and that's when he'll sign. Guti wil lcome to, together with a chinese goalkeeper and a Norwegian substitute.

You can see why the world is becoming such a crap place with the moron who made the last anonymous post.

Regarding Baptista I would assume he gets his passport this august as if it was next year he would be technically unemployed by then as his contract would expire on july 1st, unless he joined a different spanish club or extended his contract with sevilla. Either way I seriously doubt we will see him wearing an arsenal shirt at anytime.

I hate all these types of rumours about DD going to spain to conclude deals etc because you desperately want to believe them but just end up disappointed over & again when it turns out to be rubbish as usual. Lets just all pray wenger does indeed have one or two players lined up & a great plan to boot aswell.

Guti is rubbish. We don't want him.

Where's Christenval? Is his trial over? I was hoping he was gonna be a great cheap signing. We need someone like him.

9:54 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree, Christanval would have been a decent cheap acquisition to strengthen the defensive cover. May have also given us a chance to offload that useless cuntbag Cygan. Im guessing Christanval failed to prove his fitness...

As regards to DD jetting out to Spain. I REALLY HOPE THERE IS TRUTH IN IT. Hes got to being the Beast back over Guti though. All those who say the Beast will stay for another year in Sevilla, i think you will be proved wrong if Arsenal give Sevilla the money they want. They do not want him staying a year and dramatically dropping in value. They will force him out.

Come on DD make that £15 mill offer and test their resolve.

10:30 PM

Believer, I think that quote speaks volumes. Sevilla are in a tough situation now as Baptista has left them in a lose-lose situation. They wanted to keep him, but he wont sign a contract and now he says he will stay another year and allow his value to decrease majorly. If they receive a bid that they think is the right amount of money, they will try to force him out of the club if he rejects the chance to leave. Sevilla are in control, not Baptista.

And therefore hope spring eternal.

I still believe we have a chance of signing Baptista. Like Gilio says the decision will be made by sevilla. If we agree a fee with them, they will tell baptista you can leave now or we will put in the reserves. And with the world cup at the end of the season. He cant afford not to be playing if he wants to be in the brazil squad. He hasnt said he doesnt want to join arsenal, he just wants to get a eu passport.(fare enough). But like I said sevilla could take that decision out oy his hands.

Guti fails to attract the interest of Wenger
From Nick Szczepanik in Weiz, Austria

ARSÈNE WENGER, the Arsenal manager, categorically ruled out a bid for Guti, the Real Madrid midfield player, last night. The player’s agent had suggested that his client would be interested in reinforcing a Highbury midfield depleted by the sale of Patrick Vieira to Juventus, but Wenger was unequivocal. “These things are either yes or no, and it’s no,” he said.

Well it's kind of a tough situation for Baptista. He has 4 choices:

1. Stay in Sevilla no matter if he gets relegated to the bench or not.

2. Go to another spanish club. I smell Barca.

3. Join Arsenal!

4. Sign a new contract with Sevilla.

My guess is that he takes up the pen and signs a new 1 year extension. It's the easiest way out if he really want that passport.

BUT I don't see why we can't sign him after he has received the passport in august. I mean the window is closed at august 31st and we can't be that unlucky about that being the same day he recieves his passport.

The Sun says we will complete the signing of Julio Baptista today and he will move later this week. The Tabloid says, 'ARSENAL finally expect to complete the signing of Julio Baptista today. Vice-chairman David Dein flew to Spain last night to conclude negotiations with Seville on a £12.5million deal for the Brazilian striker nicknamed ‘The Beast’.'

Obviously we will have to wait and see whether The Sun know what theyr are talking about, but strangely I am going to be optimistic and trust The Sun over this story.

Well done Nyssie, you might have been correct about The Beast, and thankfully wrong about Guti as Wenger himself, shock horror, has actually said nothing will happen. Unlike Arsene to stick his neck out in the media and say something regarding transfers.

Thats strange.I saw DD last night driving last night at 7pm in totteridge. How could he have been in spain negotiating with a player who doesnt want to play for us ?

As the day goes on it seems as if The Sun's story seems to be unfounded sadly. You do wonder where they get the stories from though don't you. Did they actually see the story on Nyssie's Blog and thought that can fill a few lines in the paper.

Of course there is still time, but it looks like another dissapointing day in this on-off transfer saga...

Anonymous,

How can i describe the fact that you have no chance of getting Baptista...?

I would say that YOU have got more chance of getting a wank off the pope than Spurs signing the Beast.
