'Beast' Booed By Fans
I know I said I wasn't going to post anymore on the Baptista saga, but I didn't think it would be such a shite day news-wise...!
'The Beast' has launched a verbal attack after he was jeered following Sevilla's game against Pilas on Thursday night.
Sevilla won the game 5-1, with Baptista scoring 2 of his sides goals. However, after the game he was booed and whistled by much of the 2000 strong crowd.
"Those who are whistling me now don't even know why they are doing so," he said.
"I don't have to prove anything to anyone, I've already done that in the league for the past two seasons.
Is this good news for us...or are you as sick of the speculation as I am?!?! ;o)

Totally sick about the whole baptista thing now though you're right Nyssie there is sod all else happening at the mo. Fingers are still tightly crossed but its probably better not to build it up too much cos it'll be more disappointing when it doesn't happen.

personally i think hes got his heart set on Barca, and he'll want to go there next summer probably to replace larsson.
Sevilla are in a tough position. They want to keep him but surely cannot afford to if he's interested in running his contract down. All clubs face this dilemma in this post-Bosman era.
If he doesn't really want to come here then why spend all that money? Everyone, myself included have been demanding additions to the squad but they have to make a difference. There is no point in buying for the sake of buying.
i am begining to dislike him as well, he is carrying on like he is ronaldinho or something any player should be delighted to come to us, its not as if we a sp*rs or something,as i said in an earlier post sign or piss off

It will be sevilla's fault when they end up with nothing!! next year he can leave for around 800K or something similar to barcelona. Arsenal tried to do a quick deal but sevilla messed us about & it put doubts in baptista's head. They obviously hadnt thought of real madrid or barcelona becoming interested & tried to get 15 million for him off us. Its all back fired now, shame we will not see him playing in an arsenal shirt but thats life. I am glad sevilla are screwed though it serves them right for being so greedy.

Bottom line is we need an established striker to help Terry whilst Reyes and Van Persie get up to scratch. baptisita would be nice but i agree he needs to show some respect and commitement to joining the mighty Arsenal. Meanwhile, if we get Davids on the cheap and Jenas i reckon our midefield will be able to crack Europe.
Its probably all paper talk but if Robinho goes to Madrid and we fail to land the Beast then how about Michael Owen? Surely that would be the paciest attack in world football? With Hleb and Cesc pulling the strings and picking out passes it could be a devastating partnership.
By the way was anyone unlucky enough to but the new shirt with Vieira's name on the back? A mate of mine did and he was not a happy chappy!
Whats the point in buying a player over 30?? it totally defeats the object of selling vieira who was better than davids, dacourt etc!! Are arsenal going to do anything about Gilberto's contract as he only has a year left. DB10 is off next summer, Ljungberg only has a year left & pires will be off on a free next summer!!! Thats a serious amount of talent to replace & senderos & henry are still to sign new contracts which makes you wonder if they are concerned with the way arsenal are going.

the main reason for baptista to move to arsenal.. is to get a starting place in brazilian national team.. for the next years world cup.

most of the arsenal players have a very good history of gettin a national team place early. look at fabregas.. he is gonna get selected for next years world cup.

Out of those only Henry & Lupoli are out & out strikers (altho that could be argued against in TH14's case) The rest are wingers or 'half-strikers'... we do need someone to take the weight of TH14's shoulders though

If Baptista chooses to remain at Sevilla then the Andalucian club will have four non-EU players on their books for next season, but the Spanish League only allows three to be registered.

Ball comes in high and behind him; he controls it with his thigh, flicks it over the defender desperately trying to get close (fat chance!); then a curling left-foot volley into far corner. No real power behind it, just a graceful shot.

I thought they could have no more than 3 non-EU players in a match-day squad but they could have more than that in the squad as a whole. I'm probably wrong on that.
This is perfect. The Sevilla fans have made it easier for us. Just as Gerrard manufactuered an 'out' with a blowup, as Beckham did with the flying shoe etc, 'Fans turn on the beast' is good for us because it gives him a reason to leave, or an excuse anyway. It also puts more pressure on Sevilla if they are actually what's holding up the deal. Either way we have a better chance of getting him than before this.
Arsenal have agreed a fee with Seville for him, and now it's just down to him to choose to leave or not.
Once again our friends at The Sun have raised our hopes about signing The Beast, saying we have agreed a fee of £13.7 mill for the player. Once again, however, it is only The Sun reporting this and after they said we would sign him on Thursday i have my doubts.
If The Sun are correct, expect some news soon as Sevilla leave 2moro for their tour of China. If they have accepted an offer, they will probably want the deal wrapped up before then. It will be very interesting to see if Baptista makes the trip. If he doesnt then it would seem we may well finally get our man...

I have to say im a bit confused now about the Baptista situation. He speaks as if his EU papers will come THIS august, but he says he wants to stay another year to get his passport. Whats going on there?
My feelings are that becuase the player has met the Boss and the fact that Arsene has actually spoken about the player, which is something he rarely does, he will sign for us, but it may be in August. The fact the two have met may have given them the chance to discuss these stipulations regarding the passport and even perhaps the amount of money Arsenal were willing to pay. The longer this goes on towards the start of the season, the smaller the amount of money Sevilla are likely to accept due to their ratehr precarious position (losing him cheaply in a years time + he wont sign an extension).
Although this has gone on far too long and it is somewhat of a saga, the stipulations regarding any deal make it rather interesting to observe over the next week to ten days.
Have arsenal actually signed that armand traore from monaco?? I thought it had fallen through but he appears on the arsenal website as a first team player.
Quite simply they probably have accepted spurs bid, however there is no chance on earth of baptista going to spurs, so they had to accept arsenal's in the hope he would join us!! I say in the hope because they are now terrified that he will remain for a further year & move to Barcelona for 800k next summer which means they would lose out on nearly 13 million pounds.

Sevilla have said that we have now bid 24 million euros for Baptista, but that a deal would have to be struck between three parties: us, them and the Beast himself.
I am guessing the 24 mill euro bid has probably been accepted and it is now down to the Beast who reportedly wants to wait until the end of the clubs China tour or the start of August before making his decision.
If he gets his EU papers in August, like he says he will, then i would say it is odds on he will be an Arsenal player next season, but he might not play too much of a role in the first few games having joined the club relatively late on in pre season.
After all, he's met the boss, and not many reject Arsene because he is one of the world's best. I have said for the most part of this saga that the key point is that the two have met.
It will be interesting to see how Wenger will utilise the Beast's talent and versatility, and may well give the squad, the fans and the club as a whole a huge lift before the season starts.
I am now utterly convinced he will be Arsenal's RECORD SIGNING of over £17 million and will join in early August and it would be fantastic news.
