Vela to Join?

Young target Carlos Vela reckons that signing for the Gunners would do his career no end of good. The 17 year old Mexican lad is highly rated and has also interested the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus.

After training with Arsenal recently the youngster had this to say...

"If my destiny is Arsenal then that would be very good for my career. I want to show everyone just how good the level of football is in Mexico."

Vela's agent, Eduardo Hernandez, confirmed: "It has been an excellent experience for Carlos at Arsenal so far.

"His family are enchanted by London and Thierry Henry has greeted him warmly, We all went to see them play Manchester C!ty and took a tour of their new stadium.

"Arsenal would be a good club for him to join but we are going to listen to other proposals,"

It would a good one for 'the future' but the kid has got other admirers and like you Jobby - AW should be signing experienced players not just kids... We want to be in contention to win the league before 2010 after all.

Any other young player who's not French like Cesc, Senderos, Reyes and RVP? And why can't Wenger sign Vela and experienced players? Reports in Mexico suggest that Vela's family are already looking at houses in England.

Er...talk to Wright or Jeffers?! Hardly. Those two clowns lacked the bottle to play for Arsenal. They failed Arsenal, not the other way around - look at them now if you need the proof.

However, I agree with Jobby - the kid has no great affiliation with us, probably not surprising because he's in Mexico. That said, I bet Real, Barca and Inter all invoke the same reaction - famous clubs, thousands of miles away. He's just being sensible, weighing up his options, just like Senderos did before joining us.

but wright and jeffers cost you somewhere in the range of £15m. Expensive cock up.

lets see arsenal or barcelona, or maybe madrid.
tough decision.

Wright and Jeffers was, admitedly an expensive mistake, but at least it curbed Wenger's enthusiasm for buying even more also-rans like Jenas, Carrick, Hargreaves and Robinson just because they were English. Imagine how mediocre we'd be with that bunch of journeymen.

I seem to recall that TH14 had a choice of Spain or England and called it right!

francis and wright were good before joinig arsenal, not mediocre and look at them now. what about matthew upson? he's in the england squad now he's left arsenal. french youngsters like aliadiere, and the ones who make the odd appearance in cup games.

arsenal are shit at developing players, he should go to spurs!

What would be the point of him joining real madrid ,barcelona. Barcelona have 2 players in his position already a year older messi and dos santos. Wenger has a history of playing young players if they are good enough cole, clichy, cesc. I can remember dos santos complaining about not been given a chance at barca. looks encouraging

Anon 4:59...How can anyone in their right mind say Arsenal are shit at developing players?

You've just proven how ignorant you are and how little you know my friend...

I could sit here and reel off a list of players that have benefited by coming to Arsenal.

Every manager makes one or two cock-ups along the way - but AW positives in that dept. far out weigh the negatives - he might of got in Wright/Jeffers for approx. £15m but if check the outgoings compared to incoming in his transfers I think you'll find he's ahead of the pack. For instance he got Sulky Anelka for half a mill and sold him for £23.5 -great business sense you'll all agree - think that alone out weighs the £15m on those jokers. Not any manager in the Prem could compare to his stats business wise, esp, not Ol 65% Proof Nose Ferguson or José Money (having a laugh there boys).

Also how many players after they have left Arsenal be they English, French or Mongolian make a success of it anywhere? PV4 could buck that trend but after players leave The Arsenal it's pretty much down hill - even Marco Overmars/Manu Petit going to Barca didn't do anything for their careers.

anon 4:51 at the AGM Wenger said that he tried to sign Carrick and Robinson but could not clinch the deals.
Shoots your post down really.

I would prefer to see that we are signing 3 experienced players in the age group 22/27 during the January window to show Henri that we mean to challenge for honours this season and hopefully persuade him to stay with us for the next 3 years. The team is totally lacking experience and cover in key areas and the fans are getting pissed off with mediocre performances this season!

Upson? Did someone mention Upson? That nervous penalty-waiting-to-happen only broke into the England squad when Campbell, Rio, Terry, and now King, were/are injured. He has as much chance of becoming a first choice England centre-back as Emile Heskey has of winning the Golden Boot.

I'm quite happy for Wenger to keep snapping up the best young talent as long as he's lining up a few quality experienced additions to the squad.
Even if only a few of them make it in the long term, financially it makes sense. And it's a great feeling seeing the likes of Senderos or Cesc breaking into the squad. Our multinational squad is sorely lacking a mexican anyway, that'll be another box ticked.
