Gilberto Staying Put

It appears that our Brazilian midfielder wants to remain at Arsenal for the forseeable....

"My contract runs until August, 2008," Gilberto said. "I am extremely calm and happy with the possibility to renew the contract. We will sit down and talk about it.

"I will only leave Arsenal if a wonderful chance appeared to leave here. I share the will of the club, know the staff well and already I've made some history here."

Good chap!

He is just amazing. A truly world class holding midfielder who has a lot of the Brazilian flair. Hero. Can I take this moment to say the biggest mistake Arsenal made this summer, which isn't their fault, is to not offer Edu a better contract in light of PV(4) leaving because Edu and Gilberto have everything in their game that a midfield duo need. FACT!

i suspect the tabloids might focus on the latter part of his statement - ie he would be willing to leave if he had a wonderful offer

Great News. He looked in fine fettle on Sunday when he came on. He produced some delightful touches and it was good to see him play with Newcastle looming. I agree we cannot afford to lose him

Guys, on a seperate issue. A mate of mine who works for Adidas and many of it's clients gave me some information today that you may find interesting. It sounds well beyond reality and too far fetched to me to be true but I will pass it on anyway. He believes that Baptista going to Real was a temporary measure to ensure that he gets the Spanish citizenship and he will be swapped with JAR at the earliest opportunity. Probably the end of this season. As I say it is very far fetched and unbelievable, but this guy told me Vieira was going to Italy at the back end of last season and I didn't swallow that either.

I still think we should have signed Davids.
