Gibba To Miss Community Shield

Gilberto is to miss this Sunday's clash against Chel$ki in Cardiff.

Le Boss has said that he is making good progress, but will not be ready in time.

"Gilberto is doing well but he is short for Sunday," said AW after last nights friendly against Beveren.

So...who do we play in the middle this Sunday?

Your thoughts please ladies and gents...

no brainer - Cesc and Flamini

The starting XI is pretty predictable, it will be Lehmann, Lauren, Senderos, Toure, Cole, Ljungberg, Flamini, Fabregas, Reyes, Bergkamp and Henry, with subs being van Persie, Pires and Hleb unless any of them gets injured during the week.

This is rediculous! our team wasn't strong enough last season....and the start of the new season has arrived...and we will have the exact same lineout as last season!
I know we finished strong last season and people say our youngsters will provide sufficient cover bla bla bla - they wont, lets face it. We need to sign TWO players in the next week or we're back to square one...and without vieira.
I cant believe we haven't strengthend ALOT more...not very optimistic about the coming season at the moment...

I say Wenger will surprise us somehow. Maybe he'll sign Owen, maybe Cygan will develop into a fine midfielder:P

At least we looked good in pre-season matches. Don't forget we finished last in Amsterdam tournament last year and now we won it even without Gilberto, Fabregas and van Persie!

I think people are forgetting how good Gilberto and Cesc looked together last season. They will develop into a fine partnership this season and Cesc will continue to improve beyond the brilliant standards he has set already. One or two signings would certainly help but it wouldnt be as disastrous as people are making it out to be if we dont sign anyone.

It's true - Cesc and Gilberto's partnership last season did produce some beautiful football.

What bothers me is that Cesc is still a kid...albeit a very talented one, but a kid nevertheless. Can he produce what we know he can consistantly over 40-50 games?

and check out cesc's new hair do on arsenal.com. he's blatantly going to turn into some kind of uber pires midfield monster. Did you see the express article, something like 'HENRY HORROR' because he's only got two years on his contract, 518 days. panic guys.Express, the worst paper in the world.

Everyone is pessimistic just because we sold Veira (how do you spell it? I mean that midfielder that left for Fiorentina, or was it Lazio?) who was not committed to the club and didn't play well at all last season.

If Sol was fit then Cesc and Toure. Otherwise Cesc and Lauren with Hoyte at RB.

OMG! 518 days!! It's liek 2 weeks! Henry gotta sign an extension for 20 years!

Yea playing lauren in central midfield would be a good idea if Gilberto and Flamini get injured. Planty of cover in right back; Hoyte, Eboue, Toure...

im sorry about this i know we want to win every game but this i hope we don't win it let chelski win it then thats the beginning of their downfall becos there is a curse on that cs so all i want is that we play a good game even penalties but they must win arsene knows this thats y he won't play silva.

meh, the weak part of our season came when vieira and henry were playing injured, and cygan was filling in for sol. once senderos came into the side look at the numbers.

of course wearing the blue shirt as third will doom our season, right?

My point is - We all know we wern't good enough last season and our squad just wasn't as strong... Vieira may have had a couple of bad seasons but it doesn't mean we're better off without him... Im just saying, if your gonna sell such an influential captain, SURELY someone JUST as good has to be bought! I know cesc & gilberto we're a good partnership - im not denying that BUT cesc is still only young and I feel the arsenal fans will only rely on him WAY TOO much and i dont think such pressure should be put on such a youngster - he's got years ahead of him and i think we need a SOLID, EXPERIENCED player to play with Gilberto so we can get the league back... (im also hoping wenger stops fu*king about and sign OWEN!)

What about the fact that Gilberto is missing for this weekend's game and for a lot of last season? Without him, leaves 2 very inexperienced players and if is out for spells this season could cause trouble...

I hope we lose the community shield - genuinely this is my hope as it has proved a bad omen time and again to win this devils cup!

I am really concerned for our midfield - we need a right sided midfielder challenging Fred and an experienced central midfielder to add depth to the squad. I personally would play toure in the centre where his energy would give us a huge boost.

Looking at the shape of the squad I am starting to see something like this develop.

A Team:

Lehmann; Lauren, Toure, Senderos, Cole; Gilberto(DMC); Fabregas(MC), Ljunberg(MC); Hleb(AMR), Reyes(AML); Henry.

B Team:
Almunia; Eboue,Campbell, Cygan, Clichy; Flamini(DMC); Pires, Bentley; Owusu Abeyie, Bergkamp; Van Persie.

With the flexibility of the attacking players who are starting and on the bench I can see us causing some serious problems. The only problem is the prospect of being slightly lightweight in the middle, but Flamini replacing Pires or Cesc could be a way to solve that, as could any one of Lauren, Toure or Eboue.

We could also revert back to our old style as well. Can anyone smell a plan b?
