Dennis Still Believes

DB10 insists we can still compete with the likes of Chel$ki and ManUre despite losing Patrick Vieira...

“Patrick was a big, big player for us on and off the pitch. He helped to build what we have now, we shouldn’t forget that,” said Den.

“How will we cope? Well, we have won games without him in the past and we will stick together and come out of it hopefully stronger – because we have to.

“If you cannot be competitive with the money then you have to look at different things – the young players, the youth system.

“We are still a team with a lot of talent and if we can keep it together and let it grow then we can still be a good team.

“This season there is still a possibility we can be champions. We have not given the title to them already.”

Nice blog. I hope Arsenal arent fooled that hole in midfield will go away. Against Porto they were 2nd best in midfield.

Thanks! I agree - we are definitely looking a little flimsy in the middle...

still got gilbert and fabregas to come back! Flamini was great lsat night in my opinon and dennis is a true legend. Last night i was at the amsterdam tournament and it really made me realise how great the guy is, the dutch love him and fairplay to the guy, he realises that he has to lead the team along with henry now.. one more year!

Everyone keeps sayin we've got Gilberto and Fabregas to come back but Gilberto isnt as good as every body thinks and Fabregas is too young to dominate the midfield

It was good to see the tean play better when Dennis came on but we need to stop relying on him cos he wont be around forever and we need to work on a new style of play

i dont think theres any doubt that we lack power in the midfield. Gilberto is a cracking holding player, but he doesnt get stuck in all that much, he just mops up any danger. He needs someone to play off him and the perfect player for him was PV4. He will play well with fabregas as long as the team as a whole is playing well. If not we will struggle.

Flamini for me is a good squad player, but no more right now. He struggled to anchor the midfield in Amsterdam and we looked disjointed. I wouldnt mind wenger following up on his praise of Meireles of Porto. He was a fine player with excellent vision and tough in the tackle.

We do need experience, but my fear is that Wenger will only sign 17 year old Alex Song. Another prospect for the future, but we need someone for the present.

In other news i read a post on a forum by a uruguayan about our goalkeeper target Seba Viera and not only did he say that the deal is as good as done, 'JUST now, he had a meeting with an Agent (acording to Argentine News channel and many new links online) that said the deal is pretty much set as Wegner told Viera to pack up and fly to England RIGHT now', but also went on to say:

' you guys are SO lucky (if you get him...which you'll most likely will). Like I'm completely honest when I talk about the recent fall in the URuguayan league and the limited great players to be sold (I'll be the first to say: X has just been sold to Arsenal.....but he kinda sucks).

But Viera is poised to be Top 5 if not the best goalie in the world one day. ALL he does is train and perfect any mistake he makes.....he's incredible and by far the greatest most promising talent (even over Recoba or Forlan). Arsenal are gonna be really happy with him'.

Sounds as if maybe, JUST MAYBE, we may be on the verge os solving our goalkeeping curse.

I really hope so. I felt that if we had had a qaulity gk last season, we would have saved AT LEAST 6-8 points in the league alone. We all know the 3 areas we need improve in (gk, cm, and the plan b striker). Personally i would be happy if we got just 2 of these 3 now., considering the way aw was talkin recently about being happy with his squad. He has to say that as if he says that we badly need a cm then who ever he goes infor they will ask 4 even more money. But he knows we need strenthening, he must do. I hope so anyway.

Yes Gilberto is a holding midfielder, not much as a playmaker like Vieira was. I putting all my chips to Cesc to replace Vieira in years to come. If only he is a bit bigger and stronger than he is now.

Fabregas is a different player to Vieira and we must remember this. He has his own qualities which we can develop and the team's style will have to adapt because of it. As for next season the whole of the midfield will have to share the responsibility on the pitch of replacing him.

Barthez was pretty short too and he seemed to do fine.
