Mornin' guys and gals - I've been up in Lincoln since Saturday - hence the lack of posts.
I watched the Chel$ki game in a little boozer up there. They won by a VERY lucky goal that bounced off Dr*gba's shin, which he knew nothing about. However, we didn't look half the team we did a year ago. Something needs to be done. Fast.
On a more positive note, it turns out that Freddie's injury isn't as bad as initially feared.
A statement from Arsenal.com revealed...
"Scans on Freddie Ljungberg's knee have revealed just bruising.
"He left Stamford Bridge on crutches but the damage has not turned out to be as bad as it first appeared."

I'm no manager, but - you simply cannot compete with the midfielders we have.
Yeah ive also heard that we wont be signing anyone. What shocks me most about that is the fact that means we wont be signing a keeper which i think everyone believes is essential. To have to rely on Almoronia is Jens is injured is disastrous.
It seems to me that while Chelsea and United have progressed this summer, we have taken two or three steps backwards. Initially i was excited by PV4 leaving, mainly due to the possibility of imminent arrivals, but it looks like we are getting nothing.
In an ideal world we could do with 4 more players. A keeper (Adler, Isaksson), a defender (Kompany - although we have been curiously linked with Wolves player Lescott), a midfielder (Jenas) and a striker (Mcarthy, Owen or a target man type). I was at the very least expecting a goalkeeper, but to end up with nothing could be catastrophic.
On sundays game, yes the goal was lucky, but i believe Chelsea earnt their luck. Mourinho knew that we had Crespo under wraps so he made adventurous changes to the side and to their gameplan that worked a treat. He was also once again spot on in preventing us from scoring. Rarely did we play with any pace and our captain was largely non existent for the 5th game in a row.
The thing is, that the good teams can keep us out becuase they are solid enough at the back to stop our passing. Once they have done that they know we have got nothing else to throw at them and barring a bit of luck (eg against Newcastle with the dodgy pen and the sending off) we will not break them down. We are too easy to work out.
One other thing that worries me is why we are not playing at the pace we normally do. Build ups are laboured, passing slow and we are not, other than Hleb, running with the ball at the moment.
On sunday it was a narrow defeat that was more frustrating than disappointing, becuase with a bit more belief and ambition Chelsea were ours for the taking, but no one kickstarted us into action like Vieira could have done.
A big win 2moro against Fulham is now crucial.
I was pissed off as everyone else was that we got beat by a flukey goal but old problems still remain and, unless they are addressed, we have no hope in winning the Premiership or the champions league.1) Arsenal concede or look likely to concede too many goals at set pieces - without Vieira and Edu we have even less height in the team from last year. 2) Absolutely the worst team in the Premiership at creating any possible goal chances from set pieces - particularly from corners 3) No obvious target man to finish off any goal chance created or give us another option up front 4)The lack of a true captain on the field - the idea of giving the armband to Henri is even more crazy than passing the same to Vieira.Also,it is definitely affecting the performance of our main goal scorer. With no transfers in, the squad looks even less experienced than last year.
the fact is, if the goal had been ruled out for offside like it should have been, everyone would be saying whata great result and how well we did at keeping a clean sheet. i think everyone should get off the teams backs as its not their fault no investment has been made in the team. we've got to remember we're moving into a new stadium which cost a lot of money so we have to be careful with the moeny for the time being. one more year and we'll finally be able to compete with the top clubs financially. patience is the key and considering the amount of trophies we've won recently i don't think thats too much to ask.
As everybody knows Arsenal have an attack which frequently starts from the left. Neutralize it,and Henry and company have problems.
Instead of making few passes which can result in more shots,Arsenal are playing stylishly with intricate passing which give defenders time to block the attacking players.As a result in the Chelsea game, Henry was not one on one with any Chelsea defender.
I think Arsenal have to take the direct route route which was what Andy Gray,himself an oustanding striker,said on tv.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Arsenal struggle against teams they are supposed to beat.

I wouldnt say hats off to them really. With the money they have spent, they should have the squad they have. I think its hats off to Mourinho for gelling them so well and being excellent tactically. He has started with a solid back 5 and has enough attacking variety to score the 1 goal they need a game to win.

this team is pretty far from the finished article and i very much doubt they will find answers to all questions asked by the oppostion in the league and europe this year. the title is out of the question.

I'm thoroughly fed up. Its time Wenger pulled his finger out and actually did something. He seems intent on completely ruining what he has built. If we are being honest we have looked rubbish this past two games. Newcastle was apalling and regardless of whether Chelsea fluked a goal or not they looked much better than us. For christs sake Arsene sign someone not only cos we badly miss Paddy but to give the team a lift. We have zero team spirit and I am starting to doubt whether we made the right decision in making Thierry captain. Sign someone cos are team is well and truly f*cked.

The thing that is frustrating is the Arsenal money men have said there are funds to buy players, its just Arsene is chooosing not to. He has come and said he admires players (Owen, Benni, Jenas), but wont be bidding for them. I believe AW has too much faith in the youngsters. They are undoubtedly talented, BUT they are not experienced and are not ready to launch a title challenge.
In a few years we will be ready, but unless something is done, for the time being we will struggle. Also, is anyone slightly worried that Spurs may finish close to us this year. Theyre looking good and have excellent squad depth. Pains me to say

oh yee of little faith. i have not seen enough variety in chelsea's attack to consider them the complete team. in the 2 games so far esp wigan they have been poor. after the wigan game their fans were happy with the result. our team beat newcastle by 2 goals and the were moans about how we play when teams pack the defence. some of u are so unhappy you give the impression that you have even moaned about it to the good samaritans (very depressing). You are right that we need to solve the problem of teams that pack the defence against us, but it is also a problem for many top teams. Most fans are right about wanting more variation when it comes to breaking these types of teams down, but instead of buying a big lump to hoof the ball to when we are desperate i would like to see us use the tactics brazil employ when they struggle to break down packed defences by using the centre back to make up numbers in attack. Lucio and edmilson do this very well though it does make them very open for a counter. but we have more ball players than players with good arial ability so may suit us better than lumping the ball to a centre forward.
I just like to remind people that we have no devine right to sign the best players and that we are not the most attractive team in the world so player will choose other clubs ahead of us. We are so spoilt now we expect the best players to come to us automatically no matter what other offers that they get around the world. we went for robiniho, baptisa who both chose real madrid ahead of us. But some of you lot are giving the manager stick for not signing these players and are mentioning names of players who they say we should go for but we are not everyones first choice and the only reason they would come is cause of the manager. How many of our players have stated the only came to arsenal because of the manager. No one could forsee that abrahamovic would buy chelsea and significantly change the scope of never mind british football but world football, everyone is struggling to adjust even man utd, liverpool, newcatsle, real, milans etc they have all had to re evaluate their long terms plans because chelsea money has changed the footballing landscape( e.g. all the best players in the world will have an offer made for one of their players by chelsea, and with thier financial muscle they would be hard to ignore, the arrogance of power that comes with money that has lead to some of their rule breaking etc). So give mr wenger the chance to respond to these changes cause they have taken every one by supprise.

anon@ 4:20, im sorry, but i disagree. It is now the 3rd season that Chelsea have had under Abramovich so what they do now is hardly a surprise. Wenger must have known that Chelsea would spend another £50 mill plus on players, its up to him to compete and stay with them. The first year of Roman, we won the title so we cannot use Abramovich 'surprising' the football world as an excuse, im sorry, no way.
The fact of the matter is Chelsea have improved, Man USA have improved (despite the glazer uproar), Liverpool and even Spurs have improved while we have decided to take a step backwards. The Vieira sale does not bother me, but the fact weve not reinforced does. The first two games have been blatently obvious that we are not good enough.
At the very least we should have signed a keeper. United and us have had problems in that area, so they have bought Van der Sar, while weve bought fuck all. Although a short term option Van der Sar already looks to be a top notch buy for united, while we have to rely on two erratic at best keepers in Lemon and Almoronia.
God we have problems in every position, and its not down to Chelseas money, WE HAVE MONEY, but havent spent it. Bizarre.
Wenger has said we will definitely buy a goalkeeper before the window closes, but NO OUTFIELD PLAYERS.

wenger long term planning began before abramovic's millions had reached these shores, which was to be able to compete financially with the top european clubs but now we have to compete with those clubs and abramovic's millions. he planned to do this by: 1.)buying the best young players across the world that would fit into our style of play, 2. Buying good player at fairly low price and still competing, 3. building a stadium.
in the first year of abramovic reign we went unbeaten despite the fact that it cost them umpteenth millions to come second. the second year they cliked and we didnt have an answer and we still dont have an answer at the moment but in truth a lot of teams including man utd, barca, bayern etc did not have an answer for them at the time. i believe wenger tried to rectify the problem this year by trying some ambitious signings that didnt come off (robiniho + baptisa) which shows that wenger wanted more of the finished article than potential. you expect wenger to compete with a bottomless pit (abramovic pockets, the galacticos of madrid, the might of milan and the history of man utd and liverpool) and suggest that he has major failings in not doing so with out the resources of these other clubs. Players have reasons for joing football clubs, money, history, lifestyle but we have not much to offer than a world class manager and a team that plays very good attacking football. I rate wenger as the best judge of a players ability and if he sold a player and belives another one can step into his shoes then i believe him. weather it works or not is a different matter but i doubt he would put his job on the line if he did not believe he was correct. and the fact that we went for these ambitious signings and was unsuccessful shows that he has not lost his ambition for the job, he just didnt have much luck in the transfer market this year. but hey you cant win them all!
