What's Going On?

On the whole I don't like all the doom and gloom stuff, but we've got problems. Big problems. After yesterdays 0-0 draw, and Chel$ki's victory I know we are not even gonna challenge for the title this season. Despite what anyone says.

Admittedly we were without three of our most attacking players against West H*m in Titi, Dennis and Bob, but we SHOULD be winning games like that. We still had quality on the pitch - a lot of quality in fact.

The problem is that teams have worked out how to play against us, and we have NO variation in our play. This makes our game a bit predictable and therefore easy to plan against tactically. There also seems to be a problem with the spirit of the team - like there is some real unrest behind the scenes that we the fans don't know about.

All in all I'm quite worried. I know we're not too bad - but we ain't too good at the moment either.

Something NEEDS to be done. Fast.

i know we go players out but if we can tbeat west ham - we're gonna be fcked - simple as that . we lost the championship by 12 points last season.. TWELVE POINTS!! we didnt reinforce during pre-season - the cheque book champions did - so i dont see how on earth we expect to come better than second this season. I'm not even a pessimist I'm the eternal optimist - but being realistic. Our 'strikers' in TH14 absence aren't strikers they're a wingers turned strikers - it worked for TH14 however we dont have time to wait to see if - RvP or Reyes will make it as strikers. We need an out & out striker - simple!

we either have no money for new signings or wengers tried to be too cocky either by trying to buy unknowns on the cheap and mould them into worldclass players ala vieira, anelka etc or he spent too much effort on one player without having a backup (baptista).

I reckon any spare cash the arsenal have is being made available to pay the debt on ashburton grove. I dont reckon we have any money to spend on players despite what the board & AW has said - if we did how comes we made only two signings over the summer. I'm with AW on believing in the talent you have already - however the youngsters might be talented but they dont have the experience. Its a vicious circle. I reckon AW got caught out by Baptista - I severly believe if thought he was going to be an Arsenal player.

And with the injuries to key players the game against Ajax looks like the average will be about 12.

12 points will seem close compared to what it's gonna end up being this season. To be honest, the 12 point gap is a bit misleading, had we really gone for it against Birmingham on the final day we could have been 9 pts, and then had Henry scored his golden chance at Highbury to beat Chelsea 3-2 and Pires had hit his shot an inch lower rather than hit the underside of the bar at Stamford Bridge, we could be talking about a couple of points gap. I know that's all if's and but's, but I don't think there was as much between Chelsea and Arsenal last season as some suggest.

As for this season, we've really had it. Chelsea will win by 20 points at least, with the most painful bit being they really aren't playing very well and are nowhere near as special as they are made out.

We could do with 2 or 3 new signings, but it is not absolutely vital, as with the talent we have we should be doing so much better. We can't make excuses for the players and say 'oh, we should have signed more players', we have 15 or 16 wonderfully talented players, but unfortunately only a handful are performing to anywhere near an adequate level.

We obviously have money, otherwise we wouldn't have made huge bids for Robinho and Batista. At the same time, I might add, it wasn't a case of missing out on one and going for the other, we made serious bids to sign both of them.

I do believe AW when he says he will only sign a player he thinks will take Arsenal to another level. Unfortunately, he obviously doesn't think there are many about, when their quite clearly are.

The likes of Timo Hildebrand, Wesley Sneijder, Joaquin and Fernando Torres would all have been available this summer for the right price. They would have been expensive, but certainly worthwhile purchases with the cash we had to spend.

We have the money, we have a manager who isn't just going to spend it on any old rubbish. These are positives. We could have gone and brough Owen just for the sake of it. Be thankful we didn't. It's one thing having the money, it's another to have the players actually available in the market. We would have gone for SWP but once Chelsea jump in we didn't stand a chance. We went in for Robinho and Baptista but the lure of Madrid was too big for both to turn down. Who else was around to buy...no one. So instead of buying for the sake of it, the money is simply put aside for when the right man comes along. This is good management. At the same time all these younger players are cutting thier teeth in the big time. We are not a million miles behind anyone. We can't have it our own way all the time, but in the meantime at least we are playing football thr world loves to watch. It's not happening at the moment...but it will. Lets not turn into moaning "we should be winnig everything" type of fans.

I don't think not buying is the current source of our problems. Look at Real Madrid and Milan - they have bought the players they needed but they still don't look good. Of course, we may have future problems because of lack of depth in the squad, but I really think we had a good enough squad to beat West Ham on Saturday. I don't think Cesc, Reyes, Hleb and Van Persie lack anything individually. The team just doesn't look good enough as a whole. The runs aren't always timed right, not enough players get into the box, we aren't first to the ball when it's cleared - I think these are problems which can be fixed, but they may need time. The team doesn't seem gelled yet, and some players need to change their mentality. Hleb needs to learn to make runs into the box; Freddie needs to be confident that if he runs into the box the ball will be passed to him; Cesc needs to push more upwards as sometimes there is too much of a gap between central midfield and the attackers; We miss Pires' type of goals - when he jumps on the rebound of a deflected shot and Freddie's type of goals - when he runs behind the defence. Hopefully these many little things will be mended as soon as possible. And of course, a shot from the edge of the area now and then will do nicely.
