Super Rob Praises Young Guns

Bobby has praised our young Guns for their performance last night. Especially after such a tricky start to the season...

"Tonight we proved to everyone, and above all the English press, that although we might be struggling in the Premiership at the moment, we still remain a big team, the victory did us a lot of good."

"We knew it was important to come here, avoid the trap and get a win," Bobby continued. "We had to grind down their game because they're a young team who keep the ball well and have a excellent style of play. In this respect it wasn't easy to come here and get a positive result."

We still have things to improve, the team is young but what you must remember is that this is where the future lies,"

"It's a question of patience. And today we were playing without Thierry who is, of course, an important player for us. He's our striker, our captain and the guy who scores the goals."

"We're trying to cope with the weapons that we have, and we do have some very good weapons. At the moment, we're in the process of showing two sides of our game - one for the championship and one for the Champions League."

When asked about our dodgy form in the Premiership of late, Super Rob had this to say;

"It's still a question of patience,"

"It's a very difficult situation to handle, especially when you have a team like Chelsea who are in front and who are winning game after game. The rhythm is hard to follow.

"We're in a period of transition with the departure of Patrick Vieira, which hurt us, but you must have faith in the young players. They have enormous quality and they are showing that.

"Tonight was the proof - we came here to Amsterdam and took the three points, which is not easy thing to do."

Absolutely. I remain to be convinced by Flamini but Fab, Send RVP, Clichy and Reyes are of undoubted quality, plus the likes of Quincy, Lupoli and Smith who remain untested at the highest level. It must be said that they are all young, and relatively inexperienced so we should be patient with them when it is required. Good result yesterday no matter what anyone says. Lets hope it gives the team encouragement and confidence to go further

Fernando Torres

Fernando Jose Torres is to Atletico Madrid what Thierry Henry is to Arsenal. He is the symbol of the club and one day may even play along side Henry as Torres is one of the most coveted players in Europe at the moment and certainly has the Gunners attention. Deep in debt, it’s not be a question of whether Atletico sell Torres but more when and how much. Soon to need a replacement for Bergkamp, Arsenal: this is your man.

Atletico Madrid went thru a torrid time in 2000. Once considered inter-city rivals with Real Madrid, the nine times Spanish champions drop down to the second division for the first time since 1934, spending 2 season before achieving promotion back to the top flight. As recently as 1996 Atletico were league champions, winning the double under coach Radomir Antic that same season.

In that awful 2000 season a bright spot shown, they called him El Nino (the kid) as he was Atletico’s youngest ever player, goalscorer and eventually became Spain’s youngest ever international. Torres was given the team captaincy at the age of just 19 and today, at 21, he’s clearly Spain’s hottest prospect.

He’s an extremely pacey player, very direct, with a nose for goal. Torres is also strong in the air and possesses all the classic qualities cherished by Premiership managers. In addition he’s 2 footed and moves brilliantly without the ball, something Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger cherishes.

Just before the transfer deadline Atletico rejected Newcastle’s 25m pound plus bid for the player, but it’s just a matter of time before someone swoops him up. It wouldn’t surprise me if it were at Arsenal, as Torres plays alongside Jose Reyes for Spain; Reyes has also recommended the player to Wenger.

is it just me or is the prospect of watching any teams other than arsenal, west ham, charlton and even spurs on TV just boring? last nights game was so poor and there's probably not a person out there who didn't know it would end 0-0. the thought of watching bolton and boro tonight is just so unappealing and the only reason the everton game may be fun is because they need 4 goals! i know they've got fantastic players and a great team but the russian has really ruined our game and there's gotta be something done about it. teams other than the previous ones mentioned just go out not to lose and the sport is fast becomming a joke. i know this has nothing to do with the article but wanted to get that off my chest!!
