Who's Gonna Play Upfront?

We all know about who hasn't travelled to Amsterdam for tomorrow's game. Here's who has;

Manuel Almunia
Mart Poom

Ashley Cole
Sol Campbell
Gael Clichy
Pascal Cygan
Kolo Toure
Lauren
Manu Eboue

Freddie Ljungberg
Robert Pires
Cesc Fabregas
Alexander Hleb
Alexandre Song
Mathieu Flamini

Jose Antonio Reyes
Quincy Owusu-Abeyie
Arturo Lupoli

A draw would be a blessing. Who do you think should start?

Most of the team picks itself...but who should play up front and should we play a more defensive formation?

Your thoughts....?

Whether we like it or not, it's likely that Wenger will play Reyes up on his own with Pires/Hleb behind him, then Pires/Hleb on the left, Flamini, Fabregas, Ljunberg across the middle and Cole, Campbell, Toure and Lauren at the back with Almunia in goal.

Doesnt look inspiring, does it?

A hideously inexperienced bench too.

Maybe Quincy to come on when we go a goal down!!!!

Rae - I'm with you - tomorrow I wouldn't mind us playing that beleagured 4-5-1 formation & nicking a win. I'm not sure why AW continues using Bobby or Freddie out of position, its proven it does work time & again. Bobby is playing some shit football this season - I'd give him 45 - 60minutes at the most if he carries on the way he has done. Then bring on someone like Quincy - must admit we really havent got much choice when it comes to the bench cos we're down to the bare bones where experience is concerned.

As Gunners, we always have that 'horrible' gut wrenching feeling about now. Ajax away & yet again we have so many stars missing. Ironically, its never the lesser players ie: Lauren, Cygan etc. My team would have to be the folowing for Europe away. Almunia, Clichy, Toure, Campbell, Cole

Freddy, Lauren, Fabrigas, Hleb

Quincy Reyes.

Subs = Eboue, Poom, Lupoli, Pires, Cygan

i would go for
almunia
lauren toure campbell cole
flamini
freddie cesc
hleb pires
reyes

keep it 4-4-2 if you can
ajax are a very defense minded team that has not had the best of starts we should be strong enough to get a result

Ajax tomorrow night is the real test!! Previous arsenal sides under wenger have always come good when the chips were down & the media on their backs!! Tomorrow will basically be judgement day arsenal need to win against a very poor ajax team (who cares that they won 4-1 this weekend against the second bottom side in their league, after all they only drew 2-2 last week having been 2-0 up at home to the third bottom side). I have a really good feeling about tomorrow night I think we will win 0-2 with a good performance to match!!

He has to use clichy tomorrow. Thats our only chance of success doyn the left as cole and clichy combine well. Sticking with 4-4-2 I would go for:
Almunia;
Cole - Campbell - Toure - Lauren;
Clichy - Fabregas - Flamini - Hleb;
Reyes - Ljungberg.

Ajax have been poor the past few weeks, but they're likely to be on a high after their confidence boosting 4-1 win. (So they should be uber defensive as opposed to uber uber defensive).

I reakon

Reyes
Hleb

Pires Flamini Cesc Ljungberg

Cole Campbell Toure Lauren

Almunia

I hope Sir Wenger has the balls to change Pires early ie around 55-60 mins if Pires (Or any attackers for that matter) has an off day to give the subs a chance to impact the game. We know Lupoli has done it against them before (Albeit it a friendly) and Quincy could do it (Against his former club). I can see at least a draw as our defense seems to be...oh wait, Almunia is in goal. Anything could happen!

Whoa there, not a ball kicked in the Ajax match yet so much negativity. Yes we have a seriously depleted squad to take to Holland but there's nothing that can be done about that so lets just see how they'll do. I think it'll be a tight game but we're capable of getting a result. I would go for Lupoli up front with Jose, and with Quincy to come on for something different if needed.

Can Lupoli translate his superb form for the reserves into the Champions League? Its a massive step up but if he plays it would be fascinating to see how he'd do.

UP THE GUNNERS!!!

What I'd like to see:
Wilson
Lauren-Toure-Campbell-Cole
Fred-Flam-Fab-Hleb
Quincy-Reyes

What we will see:
Almunia
Same
Hleb-Flam-Fab-Bob
Fred
Reyes

Ajax are not normally defensive; they'll be going for the win.

we all know at this stage that AW will never try out something new, especially in a Champions League game. If Bob is fit, he will play, aluminium in goal, back 4 as is, with Cesc, Flamini, Freddie, Bob, Hleb, Reyes making up the MF and strikeforce. I would bet that Clichy will be taken off the bench even b4 Quincy, and cant see Lupoli getting a game unless we are 2 up or 2 down
