I think AW will wait until Sperz offer is accepted by Newcastle and then bid slightly more. Give the lad a choice then where to go and if he has any ambition he'd come to Arsenal. If he choses the dark side, he isn't the type of person Le Boss is looking for anyway.

Its very unusual for a player to fail a medical and a move to be called off, usualy some compromise is made and the transfer pushed through-it must be something very serious for the deal to just go dead, especialy when this guy is rated as the best young goalkeeper in south america.
Rumours are floating about that traces of cocaine were found during the medical-this would make the "failed medical" story more understandable.

I don't know that we looked *that* bad against chelsea this weekend - I thought we competed but our defensive frailties are still there for everyone to see.
What worries me is the Arsenal don't seem to be trying to sign anyone. I know wenger plays his cards close to his chest, but even the rumours have dried up!
If Jenas has any brains he'd be coming to Arsenal - in the end we only have 3 centre mids, spuds have about 3000!
I've seen 13 mill qouted as the price for jenas - maybe wenger thinks that's too much? maybe he has someone else up his sleeve? if he thinks Jenas is only worth 10-11 mill I'd rather see him splash the extra cash and provide the cover in midfield than worry about a poxy 2 mill.
In the end I do trust Wenger and I know he'll get it right - but from the outside looking in I do get worried.

end of the day its a buyers market.. £13-15m isn't too much in my book for a young english international midfield player who will only get better with the right coaching behind him. I'm not sure what (if anything) AW has got up his sleeve but i reckon he should stop squabbling a & fck the £2/3m & just pay it. He cant keep bleeting on about the price being too high - everyone is paying those prices for gods sake - even the yids. It's not as if we haven't got any filthy lucre given the success we've had over the past season's. Dont see other teams who finish below The Arsenal harking on about prices.

Cole should of been put on that money in the first place, he's arguably the worlds best left back. You can argue all you want just how much a footballer needs to be on, but that's a separate argument. He is one of our best players & his pay should reflect that, be it him coming up through the ranks or being bought in for big money. As much as what's happened in the tapping up affair - i'm reserving judgment but to call him a money grapper takes the p!ss. if the Arsenal paid him the his due we wouldnt have all that Cole-gate bollocks.

I thought we were good on sunday against chelsea despite the defeat. Our perfomance was brighter, more creative and more entertaining than watching what the Chavs had to do (defend deep with 10 man behind the ball and hit on the counter attack). Considering the match is for charity and most of the fans had travelled well over 150 miles (inc myself) i just wanted to watch a good entertaining game of football. One side tried to play football and one side killed the game. in the last five minutes crespo was wasting time by the coner flag!!!! whats that about!!!
Any way considering they spent all that money on a football team their play reminded me of a richer version of bolton. I mean most teams play so negative because they try to make the best of the resources available to them mainly a thin squad of average players competing against clubs with better resources. They beat us on sunday but they played like underdogs, we played like champions which by the end of the season we will be. Just be thankfull for the team we got cause they are very good with the potential to be world classs!!!!
what scares me about chelsea is their machine-like efficiency. They played a tight defensive game with long balls shipped over to Drogba on the counter attack and it just worked. U get a feeling that it could have only worked and that it couldnt have been otherwise. Expectedly, we got a lot of possession, we set up some nice slicky moves but we couldnt manage to break down their tight defences.
We need to get an experienced central defender. This, in my opinion, is our highest priority. Senderos is young and inexperienced, Sol is injury prone, Toure is a joke in the Champions League, and Cygan well.. . What we also need is a world class ball holding midfielder. JJ is a good prospect but is inexperienced, likewise for Flamini. Now a CB and a worldclass midfielder dont come cheap but IMHO thats the price to pay if we want to stand a realistic chance of competing against chelsea this season, particularly if they manage (as it now looks likely) to sign Essien.
Now that should cost us something like 28Million quid. Also new players bring in new momentum and with Sol, Pires and Cole all unsettled; we badly need new momentum and new blood.
Our downfall has been the wrong assumption that keeping a good team together is pretty much enough. Well it is not. Players get complacent, others get bored and so on. New players bring in hanger and momentum.
Now am not saying that this is all Wenger's fault. Our board has always been a bit stingy and I doubt that Wenger's really got 30-40 million quid to spend this season..
I am now actually resigned to there being no more new faces coming in. Every player we go for the deal seems to fall away and AW seems way over confident in what he has. I am doubting him for the first time as Arsenal manger. I know hes the right man for the job, hes been brilliant, but for me this summer hes got it all so very wrong. We would need Mavuba NOW, not NEXT SUMMER.

Also i read a very good article last night that said that we we had more worries when we won the league against the mighty liverpool in the 1988/89 season. we didnt stand a chance in a head to head with liverpool never mind winning the league. the author claimed that the liverpool side then was probably better than this chelsea side, but we had a team full of hopefuls (at the time) and we did the impossible. when we beat Parma in the cup winners cup, we didnt stand a chance on paper. they had all the best players, zola, asprillia, Thuram etc and we still did it. the author went on to say that many a night our chances have been written off by anyone and everyone, but the fans have all ways dared to believe. And now arguably with the best team in our history people have written off our chances without a ball being kicked. get behind the team support them cause if they are willing to try we should back them all the way
Look, we sign no one. Chelscum outplayed us. We have players that we either have to bribe to stay (Cole), no one wants (Pires) and waiting for another free transfer (Campbell). On top of that AW praises the f****** yids and say they will challenge us. Shite season ahead.

I love the club, but you have to face the truth. Chelscum outplayed us and look very strong to win the title again. I feel that if you have players that want to leave, Cole/Pires/Campbell, it weakens the fighting spirit. Viera has gone and AW not spending money, poss signs of financial problems. Nervous about new season.
To Anon at 3:11, football is more about science than passion and guts these days. Arsenal is not a passionate never-say-die northern team, they are a bunch of highly skilled superb athletic gifted foreigners.
Now we can get behind our team and all but then u can just take so much. Our defence has been loose for years as we all know. Luckily, we outscored teams or we broke down their attacks as our players pressed forward and kept possession.
As I said (I am Anon 3:06) Senderos, Campbell, Toure and Cygan do not exactly thrill me. Also,Lauren is getting old and slow, Cole gets forward too much and doesnt get the cover he needs from Pires. I can go on forever.
Now no team is perfect and I wouldnt swap this team of Arsenal for anything else in the world.
However I would like us to instill in the team a sense of discipline and efficiency along those of flair and slick moves.
Thats how you progress in the Champions League and thats why we need a Central Defender, a sane goal keeper and a ball Holding Midfielder.
the game on sunday was a friendly one team played football the other route 1 chelsea took it far more seriously than us as crespos corner routine on 82 mins will testify, we just never took our chances i feel our type of play will get more points than chelseas 10 man behind the ball routine, bolton,spuds,man city,everton,will just defend against them and see if they can break them down and liverpool, manure us etc will give them a hard game it will nbot go their own way, and remember they have 5 away games after champions league this season

Europe?. i can count more pro's than con's. I swear some of you have been spoilt roten by wengers success now you have got the attitude of 'spiolt little brats'. senderos(courted by milan, real, man utd), cambell(Barca, man utd) and toure (the new marcel desayee)are all quality and judging by the clubs that wanted to sign them before us then we should be proud they are with us. we do need some signings but they have got to be better than the players already here not stifle their growth. And what makes a good team is having that almost telepathic understanding with everyopne of your team mates. i think that wenger is trying to develop this season.

To Anon AC Milan. Admittedly we are a spoilt bunch of fans. I am a proud arsenal fan and i dont have any problem with Wenger or his team selection or any of his policies. I was simply pointing out what appears to be (at least I see it as such) a few weaknesses we can well do without. Well, thats what these forums are about anyway: to give space for the fans to waffle I suppose.
Senderos is young and inexperienced (loses focus at times, lack of confidence..). He was chased alright by loads of teams, as a young prospect, and so did we, but that doesnt mean anything. The sight of Toure in Champions League games sends shivers down my spine. Campbell is injury prone, lacks pace, has woeful distribution and is pretty much past his peak. A few clubs have chased him in the past but no one is knocking in his door right now, certainly not the european elite ones, we might as well flog him to the geordies while we can.
Next question is who will partner Gilberto? Flamini is a Gilberto understudy so he cant do that. Pires, Ljungberg? no comment. That leaves Cesc. Well the guy is 18 so he cant play the whole season. Also he (and Hleb) aint no holding midfielder.
So the way I see it is that our midfield is pretty much light weight after the departure of Edu and Vieira, hence the need of a Central Midfielder.
Lehmann has been very good so far but I cant trust his nerves. He is bound to lose it at one stage or another. So we either need a new number one or a serious cover for him.
