He's Back!

I must be honest, I was very dubious about Le Boss including Titi in the squad for last nights game. Just shows what I know!!!

After 15 minutes we accumulated yet another injury - JAR had a broken rib and so stepped up Thierry.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? He was OUTSTANDING!

I thought I would watch him and his body language last night to try and gauge where his heart was, and to be honest he looked as committed as ever. Another positive was his celebration after the first goal - the way he patted the crest on his chest.

I've gotta say that I am more hopeful about him remaining at Arsenal this morning than I was this time yesterday.

Three wins out of three so far in the Champions League!

COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!!

Absolutely fu*king incredible. TH is the man and we should do everything in our power to keep him, as I'm sure we will. I just hope his mind's not already made up!!
I've been reading talk about how his pace will desert him over the next couple of years, and maybe it will. But that's far from his only attribute. With his touch, vision and strength he could be astounding playing in a slightly deeper role well into his thirties.
Sell now? Depreciating value? We're the Arsenal not just some business. Let's hope the club show some ambition. And let's hope the real Arsenal fans get behind the team now when they need us. Let's show TH what he'd be missing.
By the way, good article on Arsenal America about how being an Arsenal fan sucks. Several of the 'fans' moaning on the web at the moment could do with reading it and keeping things in perspective.

Spuds optimism about being the best team in North London (and they expect us to take them seriously!!) just because they're second this early in the season will make me laugh all the louder when they sink back into mid-table obscurity where they belong.

Where do you find a good looking woman at Highbury?

The visitors end!

Mandy calls her boyfriend and says, "Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get it started.
"Her boyfriend asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?" The blonde says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a tiger. "Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle.
She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table. He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says: "First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a tiger. "He takes her hand and says, "Secondly, I want you to relax.
Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then....." he sighed, "let's put all these Frosties back in the box."

I hope Henry and Campbell play against Spurs. Then you will have no excuses after we beat you.
Two nil, Lennon and Davids the scorers.

Well Serge you should know all about herpes.

I see mandy has gone quiet. Obviously, a glory hunting supporter. I bet she only started supporting the gooners in the last 5-6 years.
She will be supporting Chelsea within the next two years.

You have to admit Serge, they were pretty funny jokes. You would be laughing if it was aimed at Tottenham.

Apologies, I've intermittently got to work. Such cutting comments though. You're probably right about the derby though, now you've unearthed the great Aaron Lennon you'll be unstoppable. UEFA cup here you come!!

How long have you supported Arsenal Mandy? Three or four years?

I would be happy with Uefa Cup. It is a young team with great potential, but we all know what can happen with potential.

Surprises me how you all bite when wound up. There cannot be a Spurs fan that believes we are the finished artical and will finish in the top three. However, if the team stays together, and the potential develops then we can challenge the top three.

Jack. Why do gooners always keep responding how many trophies you have won. Sure be proud of it, but it makes you sound like glory hunters and not true supporters.

I would like Spurs to have more trophies, but I would support them if they were in the conference. The team is who you are.

Good win again last night. We have definately amended our approach in European away games this season. I hope that is a tactical thing and not just because we have so many injuries as a cautious build up seems to work in the Champions League (Porto, Liverpool, Munich). Titi is fucking amazing, I honestly cant believe you were all debating whether he should stay or go, as paying supporters the only thing we should concern ourselves with is watching the best players and not balancing the books. That is down to the board.

Jack. I am not putting your clubs achievements down, but it does make you sound like glory hunters. Sure if we had won more maybe we would shout about it, but it seems like you cannot say anything else about your club. No offense intended.

rae..I thought I had explained myself in the post to Mandy.

Spurs will not finish in the top 3. It is a young team with a lot of potential, that if they stay together and the potential develops, will have a great chance of breaking into the top 3.
This season the Uefa Cup looks possible, and with luck, like Everton last season, we could nick 4th.

There has been a lot of embarrassing false dawns at Spurs, but this really does feel different this time. Time will tell.

11:10 AM

Kinda of Jack. Though I thought glory hunting was teams with trophies and not the potential of something in three years time.

anon 10.57. Not that I think it matters or has any bearing on the validity of what I'm saying but 9 years.
I have to agree with you though, Spuds have made some good young signings and for the first time in ages genuinely appear on the up. Jol is a good manager (obviously nowhere near Wenger's class!!) and it can only be a good thing for the Premiership if there are more teams competing at the top.
As for the North London Derby, some genuine competition would be welcome.

11:20 AM

To have a decent, competitive north London derby, the way it use to be, would be nice.

I thought Henry actually looked happier than he has for months last night. Previously, his body language looked like he could not wait to leave.

I think the other Spurs supporters are only winding you up, I am pretty sure they do not believe we are better yet(!).

Did you see the Sky programme on Wenger about 18 months ago where he said that he does not see a long term future as a manager. He was to go and develop football at the youth level in Africa.
Do you think that this means once you are in the new stadium he will not renew hs contract?

Anon.11.28, I believe Le Boss said that he couldn't see himself still in management when he was Bobby Robson's age (which is about 104), I guess he doesn't like the idea of pissing himself on the touchline and forgetting players names.

What about AW becoming the next England manager?
Especially after the report in the paper that SGE had to ask the press the date of the match with Argentina, how many matches there are in the world cup finals, and before the match with Denmark asked who plays in their midfield!

I'm glad you likes that one Mandy, but as a Spurs supporter it still does not make me feel any better.

i think the game at the lane will be very competitive spurs have improved a lot this year but if you take king or robinson out of the team they are average arsenal to win 2-1 or 3-1

I don't think the defence is playing well at the moment, despite the clean sheets. And playing Davids wide left the team looks unbalanced.
I don't think we will win, though I would not be surprised if we nick it, but I think it is a certain draw.

Remember when we sold Anelka and bought henry, pires, edu and silvihino with the cash. If we sell Titi hopefully we can get a few quality player with the returns. I dont want Titi to go but for every negative there is a positive. Arsenal 4 EVER!!!!!!!!!!

11:46 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mandy.. I can remember at Spurs we had massive injury problems for three seasons!
It is just that Arsenal have been fortunate for a few years on the injury front and now it has caught up. This is why Wenger should have tried to add players to a limited young squad with a long season ahead.
Even this season at Spurs, I know it was a good team we put out against Grimsby, but we were still without Dawson, Gardner, Tanio, Davids Mido, Routledge, Mendes,Huddlestone (who is going to be a massive star)and Rasiak (which was probably a blessing).
This is not an excuse why we lost but shows that with a large squad you can still put out a half decent team even with lots of injuries, and this is the problem Arsenal are having.
Sorry for the war and peace comment.

Henry has got to lose that nickname.

11:54 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

True, I don't think any Arsenal fan would dispute we need experienced additions to the squad. However we did bid for several players over the summer but were unlucky, and I don't think we should just blow funds on any player, they need to be of a certain standard.
With regards to selling TH, no, no, no, no, NO. Anelka was a good player but was young and has hardly gone on to do great things. TH's consistency over many seasons make him an entirely different case.

11:56 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mandy..I agree that Arsenal should not waste funds on any player. They should be of a certain calibre.
However, did the club need to sell Viera? The £13.5M you received has not helped your season, whereas he would have. Even if he is not playing to the level he once was at. Letting Edu leave seemed surprising. A decent player who was happy to be used as a substitute.
The long season that you have ahead and the high level you have to play at, it seemed an uneccessary risk AW has taken.

Plus, with all his ability AW does seem to have problems with choosing goalkeepers. I know he and Fergie doe not like buying GK's under 30, but how did he turn down the chance to sign Robinson?

12:12 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I thought Edu wanted to leave because Arsenal did not offer him a new contract and he felt insulted. So when they did finally offer one he threw a queeni fit and insisted on leaving.

12:21 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Letting Robinson slip through the net is one of the biggest mistakes Wenger has made, he's quality, English and you are lucky to have him. He has really come into his own whilst at Spuds.
Letting Edu go was also a mistake, although with heindsight I'm glad we're not paying his wages whilst he's out. He was a nice guy and would have become a big player for us this season. The way the Arsenal board go about contract negotiations leaves a lot to be desired and needs to be sorted out. At least it looks like they're not fu*king about with TH, although it's not all about money with him.
As for Viera, I still think the time was right, although we are short in midfield now. Any chance in the spirit of goodwill you'll give us a loan of one of your growing army of midfielders?

12:25 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Apparently we did offer him a new contract, but as is the Arsenal boards way with these things it was insultingly low. By the time they realised the mistake it was too late and Valencia wern't going to shell out for a player they could get for free in a couple of months.

12:29 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well you can have Michael Brown and Sean Davies(the new sicknote).

The guy to look out for is Tom Huddlestone. Only 18, 6'4'', holding midfield of CB, can hit a 70yard pass through the eye of a needle. Paid only £2m for him.

12:39 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I just said apparently. That was the speculation at the time, that initially he wanted to stay but wasn't made to feel wanted by the offer he recieved.

12:43 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jack.. The Edu thing was quite public. It was in the papers and he discussed it in interviews.

I don't konow what is offered in the contracts, I am only quoting what Edu said and Arsenal admitted to.
I'm a Spurs supporter and I knew that!

As for Huddlestone, I quoted what was paid and not what was in his contract.

Who is this big goalscoring sensation you have in the reserves?

Scored against Spurs reserves the other week.

I do feel that Arsenal's board take the piss at times with what they offer quality players who have been loyal.
Not that I lose sleep over this, being a Spurs fan.

The obvious one is Ashley Cole. Though the way he treated the club afterwards it must be very hard to support him still.

12:59 PM

I hope if we win our next CL match and qualify with a couple of games to spare that Wenger gives Lupoli, Bentdner or Quincy an extended run out.

1:03 PM

Mandy..That would make a lot of sense.
But, don't you get seeded or something if you top the group, which helps in the next round.
Apologise for the ignorance only it is not much of a talking point at the Lane!

1:06 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hear what you say Jack, but I personally would still have some trouble with that if that was a Spurs player.
We had a similar problem when Carr asked for a transfer and he wanted to go to Arsenal. Hoddle and the board said no and he was never treated the same by Spurs supporters.

1:08 PM

I think Pires will leave in the summer, hence the signing of Hleb and the delay in Henry signing a new contract.

1:10 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'd still expect us to put a solid team out, but play one of the youngsters in the first half of each match and see how they go. If it's not working out bring TH back for the second half. We're in such a weak group that given the results we've already got finnishing top shouldn't be an issue.
With regards to Pires, that pass was class. Seeing that he can still do that when he's bothered just makes how gash he's been recently all the more painfull.

To whoever was saying we should sell Henry yesterday.... I think it's time to shut up - how could you replace the guy.... he's a genius !!!

1:14 PM

I suppose playing someone like Bentdner alongside Berkampp would help his development.

At Spurs we have Rasiak to help the youngsters!

1:21 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jack.. I am a Spurs fan and if he was at my club I would want him to stay.
However, I spoke to a gooner friend of mine and I can see an argument for selling him, but I think too many factors are involved for a straight forward decision.

I thinkm it is definately what Henry wants to do rather than Arsenal convincing him. If he chooses to leave then there is nothing Arsenal can do about. No matter how much money and promises they make.
I never thought he would leave the gooners, but for the first time I think there may be a possibility.

Or do you think the above post is wishful thinking

1:26 PM

Possibly Jack. But, I have heard Arsenal supporters raise that point, and on one of the posts when Nyssie was asked his opinion, he said that he 'had to sit on the fence'. So I would not be so confident that all gooners feel that way.

Mr Serge time will tell who's youth policy is better. For sure, like your first team, you have a head start on us, but the Spurs seem keen to catch up. As they say Rome was not built in a day. It will be ineteresting if Spurs potential develops. Maybe we can get the classic north London derby going again.
