Christanval: "Campbell Asked to Leave"
Phillipe Christanval has claimed Sol wants out of Arsenal. The french defender, who spent pre-season training with us had this to say;
"I am still waiting for an answer," he stated about his prospects with Arsenal.
"I know Arsene confirmed on the club's website it won't be settled but he didn't call me yet.
"During the pre-season period, Arsene told me he was keen to sign me but only if he parts with one of his central defenders.
"Sol Campbell asked to leave.
"Considering what I know, he hasn't had any concrete propositions yet.
"But the transfer window is not closed yet. I still have hope for Arsenal.
"England has the most exciting league to me. Arsenal asked me to join them for a training period - that is not for nothing."

If Christanval is a worthy replacement for Sol then the future is bleak.
I would go to war with Sol
Christanval or Sol.
its kinda like Henry or Jeffers
id keep Sol everytime
Christanval is just bitter we didn't need him. I think it's very low because Wenger was kind to say:"we have enought CBs" instead of the thruth:"Christenval is not good enough, that's why he even Marseille didn't want him anymore even though his injury is healed."
This is rubbisch I am 100% positive Sol will stay
I think we would be more likely to replace Sol with Vincent Kompany if Sol did wajnt to go. Weve been wathcing the 19 year old Anderlecht starlet closely and he would be a typical Wenger signing. He is rated as Europe's best up and coming defender. Id like Wenger to get rid of Cygan and bring Kompnay in, but i think i can see a little pink thing flying up in the air above me (pig's might fly)
we hate him even more now
There is no way wenger will buy kompany. this is arsenal we are talking about. We dont buy defenders wen we need them!!! and we need a defender cause sol's career is sadly over. He is not gonna be able to play 10 games in a row cause he is fat and unfit. (im sorry to say).
I said it before on this site and I reiterate it: We need a CB as our highest priority. Sol's career is pretty much nearing its end. He first needs to get fit, then acquire match fitness. We are talking end of September here at the earliest. Senderos is still young and needs more experience (he needs to work on his positionning and acceleration among other things), Toure doesnt really excite me in the Champions League and Cygan is not premiership material.
Christanval is definitely not the bloke we need, however the sooner we get a decent CB the better.
We are very good going forward but if we want to stand a decent chance this year, we need to be water tight at the back.
Am just hoping that Wenger's got somehing up his sleeve..
i'm surprised everyone so far is in favour of Sol... i always think he looks very slow and is not a good reader of the game...
he was brilliant for Spurs but then they are leagues behind us... i would be happy for him & Cygan to be on their way...
i think Senderos is going to be a great player in a season or so
@ Anon 12:49. I totally agree with you. Sol was made 2 look good cause we destroyed teams in the first half hour and rarely did we have to endure waves and waves of Attack. Sol is a colossus and is excellent in one on one defending as well as aerial defensing. However, he is slow, cant read the game and his ditribution is awaful. Terry and Rio are far more versatile and confortable on the ball, and even Carragher looked the part last season.
Some ppl really need to smell the coffee and realise that Campbell, RP7 and DB10 are in the twilight zone.
firstly, i believe what chistenval is saying. wenger himself said that he didn't want chistenval because "no-one left the club". i wondered what he meant at the time, but chistenval's story has now shed light on this.
as for Sol, why did he want to leave? becuase he can't hack the competition? becuase he doesn't think he's worthy of the fight?
he is not irreplacable. he's past his best and i wonder if he'll ever be first choice again. why? becuase last season we shipped late goals (often set pieces) for fun and let slip of leads and points at crucial stages of the season. who's fault was it? Lehmann, Toure, Sol?
well, changing Lehmann didn't imporve things, but as soon as Senderos came along everything settled down, includng our keeper, we kept clean sheets and started winning games (and FA Cup finals). Senderos attacks the ball in the air. it's that simple.
AW wants Sol to stay and fight for fitness and a place in the team to keep pressue on the other two. It seems that Sol prepared to do this.
The only question is why he didn't sack Cygan and replace him instead...
Really don't think Christival will be joining over that statement about as likely as us flogging bloody Cygan.
Must admit if Sol wants to leave then fair play, no point keeping a player who wants to go (you listening PV4!) however if he wants to leave cos he's not an automatic first choice player then you have to question his mentality. No player has the devine right to be in the starting 11 if they're not performing. IF that is thw case lets face it none of us knows, who exactly will he play for & play against top teams & I mean against European CL opposition, Sol at this current rate wouldn't make the 1st team for Chelski, Man U, Liverpool not even Everton. We all know he is a superb player when he IS fit but he hasn't strung enough games together - the only teams he would be an automatic choice would be Bolton, Middlesboro & the like - not exactly 'top teams'.
The way that Sol has played lately he would not even make the Spurs side right now
