Beast Rules Us Out - For Now
I'm NOT 'appy about this!
Arsenal look set to miss out on the signing of Sevilla striker Julio Baptista who is keen to stay in Spain for one more season.
The 23-year-old was one of the Gunners' main summer targets and boss Arsene Wenger is believed to have had an £8million offer for the Brazilian rejected.
JULIO BAPTISTA But after Sevilla reacted angrily to claims that Wenger had held talks with the player, Baptista was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail: "I want to stay with Sevilla for one more season.
"Then I will be able to gain dual nationality and become a European citizen. If I went to Arsenal now, I would not be able to."
Another unnamed Premiership club, reported to be Tottenham, have had a bid for Baptista, nicknamed The Beast, turned down, while Real Madrid and Barcelona were also thought to be interested in the player.
Baptista's current deal with Sevilla runs out in 2008 and he has rejected a new one.
The Spanish club threatened to report the Gunners to FIFA after it was claimed Wenger had spoken to the player without the Spanish club's permission.

Unles you can take any newspaper report (and I mean any report) during July and August with a large pich of salt, if not downright incredulity, then I suggest you lock yourself in a cupboard for a while. Don't you realise there are hundreds of arseholes out there trying to make names for themslves in football "journalism", not to mention the agents and other hangers on who want to spin stories (and fat cheques) their way? Calm down.
Brilliant comment above. Thanks for injecting into us that litle dose of realism. Either that or Seville are trying all to hike the price in the knowledge that Arsenal really want the beast.
But there is Kujt and Germany has a lot of talented youngsters you saw in the Conf.. cup
Is he calling Sevilla's bluff? If he remains til next year his value will be far less In Spain a tribunal would fix the price.
Sevilla could always demand a good price with the player wanting to go, now for financial reasons they'll be seeking to OFFLOAD him now which should play into our hands!!
