Au Revoir Bobby

Bobby Pires has joined Villarreal on a two year deal.

Speaking earlier he said; "After six wonderful years at Arsenal, full of fantastic moments, I have decided to accept a new challenge at Villarreal for the next two years of my career.

"I am very grateful to Arsène Wenger, the players and all the fans for their amazing support over the years."

I'm quite upset by this. Admittedly Bob is past his best, but still a great player nevertheless.

Le Boss also thinks that he will be missed;

"Robert has had six tremendous years with us and made a huge contribution to the team's success during his time here." said AW

"He is not only a great footballer but a good man, so of course, we are sad to see him go."

Good luck Bobby and thanks for everything.

Im also very sad to see Pires leave, but giving him a 2years contract would cost us alot! With Henry's wages we gotta offload him.

It's a sad day for the Gooners.. Bobby you were an amazing player. As with Bergkamp, age is not kind to athletes and unfortunate Bob's best days in the team were behind him. The primiership is not kind as the pace is usually the first thing to go.

But what a player, Spurs will be happy to see him go!

His injury was unfortunate.. what a player and who knows where he could be now had it not occured. Good luck Bob, I know you'll light La Liga up.

Of course its sad to see a player of pires quality depart, I believe, however, that Wenger has once again got his timing spot on. Pires was not automatic first choice last year and would have found it even harder to have got many starts next season with Reyes, Lungberg, Hleb, Rosicky, Walcott & van persie all able to play in attacking midfield positions. Overall the best solution all round I think. Thanks bobby, what a player you were.

i wouldn't have believed in my wildest dreams his last great hurrah would be nailing vieira with a perfectly timed sliding tackle in a champs league semi.

Bye bye Bobby. Thanks for the memories - especially that tackle.

Counting Diaby we have now lost two midfielders and bought one - I hope AW doesn't make the same mistake as last summer.

I always thought that Franck Ribery was the natural replacement for Bobby, for Arsenal and France, but have never seen him linked to the club. Anyone know why ?

Because Wenger is a clown and never buys proven quality players. i believe Rosicky will be like Hleb
a flop

Merci Bobby, a worthy addition to the great Arsenal number sevens. On the stadium tour last summer, Charlie George said he had a football brain as good as Bergkamp, high praise indeed and by no means an exaggeration.

yes but, when you think about it, if that was the case then he wouldnt play next year either, the reason why he hasnt played this year, i believe, in my opinion was that wenger needed experiance to close the gap to the spuds at the time

and if you rememmber, wenger said at the time of the sunderland game, that he would have played him in the second half if it wasnt for him being injured.

thats my opinion only

also, sad to see bobby go, hes been awesome for us, but once again i trust in arsene and he knows that he wasnt worth a two year deal. just like he knew with paddy.

good luck bob, i think the spanish league will suit you well my friend. x

I think you could forget about Yaya T as well. Hasn't he said he would rather play against Kolo than with him? Also he's pissed that Wenger turned him down after trial a season or two ago.

Im not to keen on Joey Barton either, however if Sol goes and maybe Ash, were is the english backbone in the side. I firmly believe we need some english in there...

Theo Walcott, our English backbone. :)
Though seriously, I believe Cashley is staying with us.

I personally think he is staying too. Still think we need more brits...

Serg, i never saw that comment from the board, what did they say?

thats fucking stupid if they didnt play him because it would have cost us, i hope they dont hold him back through fear of paying

I'm not sure Yaya Toure is that good. Didn't impress me when I watched the African Nations Cup - although he is quite a big fellow.

If you want more brits, you can just count Thierry as one. I think he's more a Londoner than a Parisian these days. Me, I don't give a damn where the players come from, as long as they do the badge proud.

im not bowled over by curtis, i see Kolo and big phil as our centerbacks for the next 7-8 years

apparently we have to pay if he starts, not if hes used as a sub. is that true?

I don't think Poom is getting 40K a week. Anyway, I believe Walcott was meant to play at Sunderland.

Ambrose - 5 substitute appearances are considered in the deal as one start.

I don't think Curtis Davies is better than Yohann Djourou. If Sol leaves, maybe Wenger will opt for an old defender to ease Djourou and Senderos in.

interesting, but i still dont think that money would stop him being played, as surely the board would have taken this into account,

on the matter i think he wasnt played this season because experiance was needed, anyway, im going home now, so lets talk about it tomorrow after weve seen him wack a few goals in tonight
