Adams Has French Dream
Tony Adams. Remember him? Captained us to a couple of Doubles or something like that. Apparently he wants to go France and take up a coaching role there. Read on.....
Former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams has revealed that he is interested in taking up a coaching role in France.
The 38-year-old retired from football in 2002 after playing a total of 669 matches for the Gunners.
Since hanging up his boots Adams has had one coaching spell at English lower league side Wycombe, which came to an end in November 2004 because personal reasons.
But now the former defender, who has visited clubs in Germany, Italy and Holland, claims he is attracted by the prospect of resuming his coaching career in France.
"I would like to work in a different context, with good players," he told L'Equipe.
"I have had a few interesting discussions and contacts in France.
"Actually I am interested by a lot of things, whether it is a Ligue 1, Ligue 2 club or even a youth team within a great and well-structured club.
"In the past few months I have watched lots of matches, I have travelled a lot and spent a few days with (Fabio) Capello at Juventus, then with Schalke in Germany.
"I also followed Paul Le Guen in Lyon very closely.
"Now I can say that I really fancy an experience in France."
Adams - who is still in charge of the Sporting Chance Clinic which he founded to help sportsmen recover from alcohol, drugs and psychological problems - could become the first Englishman to manage a French team since George Kimpton took the reins of Paris Racing and the French national team before the Second World War.
